Julian Edwards

Job Titles:
  • JEFA Gallery ) Specialises in Modern, Contemporary and Indigenous Art. Services Include
Julian Edwards (JEFA Gallery) specialises in modern, contemporary and Indigenous art. Services include: art hanging (nationwide), Art Money, conservation advice and assistance, framing, storage, valuations, worldwide logistics, curating, and obligation-free appraisals on buying and selling art from private and corporate collections in the primary and secondary market. Julian was born into an artistic and musical family, and grew up in Jamaica, England and the Welsh countryside. From an early age, his mother started taking him to art exhibitions and would bribe Julian to sell her paintings. Now Julian has a passion for art, which he carries through his life professionally and personally (including through a serious shoe fetish!). After arriving in Australia in 2000, Julian began a professional career in the art world two years later. His first role was at an Aboriginal art gallery - Didjbeat - in the Rocks, Sydney, all because he had learnt to play the didge and the gallery specialised in Aboriginal art as well as music quality didgeridoos. Over the next few years, Julian went on to work with two further galleries in Sydney in contemporary, modern and Aboriginal art. In 2010 Julian decided to set up Julian Edwards (JE) Art Consultants with the idea to create a platform to assist emerging and mid-career artists, as well as to work with clients to buy and sell art from the primary and secondary market. The idea was simple: to work across all facets of the art world while keeping overheads low, always working towards the artists' best interests, and assisting collectors with their passion. Since 2006, Julian has curated numerous exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay and Dubai. Over the years, Julian has met and worked with many different consultants, clients, galleries, estates and artists - within the Australian domestic market, but also internationally - many of whom have remained long-term colleagues, clients and become good friends. In 2017, Julian opened JEFA Gallery in the small town of Bangalow, which has now relocated to Byron Bay.
