Aridaman Kumar Jain (ADK Jain) born in 1924, was the third member in a family of five brothers. His started his schooling in the village of Khekra and then Baraut in Uttar Pradesh. On this insistence of his teacher he went on to join the Allahabad University. At that time, the freedom movement was gaining momentum. The flame was lit in ADK Jain too, and his participation in the 1942 Quit India movement disrupted his education. He began his career as a clerk in the Post and Telegraph office and quickly rose to the rank of an officer. He married was to Shakuntala Jain and they parented 8 daughters and 2 sons. He believed in education as a core value of transformation and encouraged his children to become graduates inspite of economically constrained circumstances. He had to support a large family with his sole income. He believed in selfless social service and was reformist. He helped in getting his widowed niece remarried as a social reform in the 1950s and helped in the resettlement of refugees post partition. He held key positions in Jain organisations and educational institutions. He educated his daughters, Dr Uma Gupta and Dr Manju Verma to become doctors with the core value of serving others. This inspiration led to the formation of ADK Jain Memorial Trust after his death in 1995, at the family home in Laxmi Nagar. The first eye clinic was setup in 1996 at F70 Jawahar Park West, Laxmi Nagar. Over the last couple of decades, this centre of 5000 sq ft has served thousands of patients through camps, directing deserving ones to the hospital for surgical intervention. Over the years, the A D K Jain family has grown and as of now the family has more than 16 doctors working in India, US and Australia representing many of the specialist fields in medicine. To service the community in Baghpat, from where Shri ADK Jain hailed, closer at hand than from Delhi, led to the idea of the ADK Jain Eye Hospital in Khekra. This 50,000 sqft facility was designed by a national architect and constructed with global standards of Australia and with the guidance of Aravind Eye Hospital, Shankara Eye Hospitals, Dr Shroff Eye Hospital and Shankar Netralaya. The journey inspired by Shri ADK Jain goes on, touching and transforming lives, just as he would have wished.
