Ahmad is a Data science and AI MSc graduate from the University of Liverpool who is passionate about adopting new technologies in healthcare to further innovation. He has a professional background of working with different kinds of data ranging from the NHS to Energy service provision. He now works for innovation to identify and contribute to the areas of improvement in data science here at Alder Hey. ​

Alex Bowman

Job Titles:
  • Innovation Graduate Trainee
Alex is a BA(Hons) Business Management graduate from Liverpool John Moores University, with a strong passion for digital marketing and innovative technology. Joining as an Innovation Graduate Trainee, Alex assists in the development of new innovation ideas that focus on healthcare technologies which will ultimately benefit the children seen at Alder Hey.

Alice Lee

Job Titles:
  • Clinical Fellow
Alice is a paediatric registrar doctor and started as a clinical research and innovation fellow and PhD student for Lab to Life in March 2022. Alice's research is focused on harnessing data for early intervention in respiratory health inequalities.

Ann Marie Greenwood

Job Titles:
  • Senior Innovation Consultant
Ann Marie leads the Automation Solutions Team, which consists of the RPA and Power Apps team. Ann Marie is passionate about automation and supporting NHS Trusts in their automation journey. She is an experienced business manager in the NHS with a demonstrated history of working at an operational/management level in the NHS. Ann Marie has a focus on setting up and managing RPA pipelines, striving to ensure excellent outcomes and ROI by implementing best practices.

Anne Marie Davies

Job Titles:
  • Innovation & Inequalities Programme Manager
Anne Marie Davies is an Innovation & Inequalities Programme Manager who works for Children's Hospitals Alliance, a national network of specialist paediatric trusts working together to improve quality, access and experience for children and their caregivers. She also provides operational management support to the Alder Hey Innovation Centre. Anne Marie has over ten years of experience in the NHS, leading clinical pathways and operational service transformation. She specialises in strategic programme management and working across organisational boundaries, with experience as a sole trader and working in the private sector, community and local authority. She was recently appointed as an Associate Non-Executive Director at a Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

Claire Liddy

Claire started her career in the NHS as an orthoptist, before joining the graduate scheme & becoming an accountant. In 2011 Claire came to Alder Hey as Deputy Director of Finance & has recently been in the role of Managing Director of Innovation

Conor Peacock

Job Titles:
  • Innovation Consultant With a Background in Open Innovation
Conor is an experienced Innovation Consultant with a background in Open Innovation, researching and commercialising novel technologies across healthcare and beyond. His work at Alder Hey Innovation is focused on helping clinicians, patients, and families, and getting cutting edge research to market in a healthcare setting and NHS.

Corrigan Griffith

Job Titles:

Corrigan is a placement student studying Computer Games Development at Liverpool John Moore's University. Corrigan is working with Alder Hey for a year to gain work experience and support the innovation team before completing his final year.

Dr. Christian Flynn

Job Titles:
  • Clinical Fellow
Doctor with a passion for medicine and surgery, technology and innovation. Always looking for new and exciting opportunities in digital health space. Chris's research at Imperial College London (BSc - Surgery and Anaesthesia) entailed creating novel texture analysis models to improve diagnosis, prognosis scoring and management of cancer - this was supported by The Royal College of Surgeons via a competitive research award.

Dr. Darren Gates

Job Titles:
  • Senior Clinical Fellow at Alder Hey
Dr. Darren Gates is a senior Clinical Fellow at Alder Hey. He also works as a Clinical Innovation Consultant in the Trust's Innovation Hub as clinical lead for the Artificial Intelligence workstream, including collaborations with Science and Technology Facilities Council's (STFC) Hartree Centre on the Living Hospital project to improve patient care and experience.

Emma Hughes

Emma has over 20 years innovation experience, working within the private and public sector developing and implementing innovation strategies. Experience includes, operational infrastructures, organisational culture development, digital transformation and commercialisation. Emma provides senior leadership for the creation and delivery of the innovation strategy for Alder Hey Childrens NHS Foundation Trust. ​

Her focus on stakeholder engagement, healthcare challenges, and adapt solution identification underscores her commitment to advancing patient care. Having worked across IM&T, Health Informatics, and Cardiac Data Management for renowned institutions such as Alder Hey and North West CHD Operational Delivery Network, Jemma brings a wealth of knowledge to her current role in the Innovation Team. Currently she is Project Lead for Little Hearts at Home, remote monitoring platform for vulnerable infants across the North West, North Wales and IOM.

After completing an apprenticeship within the NHS working as a data and information support officer, I was inspired to progress my career within the NHS in Innovation in a paediatric hospital. I now ensure smooth delivery of innovation services, with focus on marketing and communications to support the realisation of the Innovation strategy. I am passionate about showcasing how Alder Hey Innovation is using and developing technology to optimise healthcare, in order to make today's child, tomorrow's healthier adult.

Mr. Rafael Guerrero - Founder

Paediatric & Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgeon, trainer, innovator and an advocate and promoter of the use of 3D printing and Immersive Tech in Healthcare. He developed one of the first innovative multi-speciality hybrid operating theatres in the world.

Olufemi Olajide

Olu is a dentist turned Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence enthusiast and currently leads Data Science team in Alder Hey Children's Hospital. He is also a recipient of a competitive PhD award in 2016 to pioneer the first ever caries risk inequality prediction tool in children that was developed entirely from Social Determinants of Health.

Patrick Grady

Currently, I'm studying towards my undergraduate degree in Data Science at John Moore's University where I'm working towards my final year of completion. My last year has been spent on placement within Alder Hey Innovation undertaking a range of tasks and responsibilities within a fantastic team of innovative individuals. Gratefully, on completion of my placement, I was offered a part-time contract working alongside my final year university studies within the data science team.

Sam Ward

Sam is a BSc Product Design Engineering graduate from Liverpool John Moore's University. He joins the innovation team after completing a final year project focusing on the design of immersive technology for healthcare. Currently working as an Innovation Graduate Trainee, Sam is assisting in the development of innovative ideas which will bring the benefits of new technology to children at Alder Hey.

Shereef Hosny

Shereef was a practicing solicitor for 11years, before taking his learning and skills into a digital agency. He has experience in both operational and development management. Shereef is now an Innovation Consultant at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Simon Minford

An Advanced Nurse Practitioner with a background in Paediatric Emergencies and more recently in the Plastic Surgery Trauma Service. Simon was one of the first Clinical Innovation Consultant's to join the development of the Innovation Service at Alder Hey

Sophie Johnson

Sophie has always had an interest in healthcare, with a PhD in Biomedical Science, her research focused on translating science into healthcare. Breaking down any barriers of getting ground breaking research to market in a healthcare setting and NHS.

Souhila Serir

Souhila has previously managed the innovation's digital, social and technical infrastructure platforms, She has now moved to the Automation Solutions team, training as a Junior RPA Developer to support the growing RPA programme at Alder Hey.

Tahani Suliman

Tahani has over 10 years of experience working with medical devices. she specialised in working with highly complex equipment. Tahani has a doctorate in Engineering and Material Science, which made her very skilled in research and project management. Therefore, she is particularly adept in bridging technical expertise, engineering, and research, as well as delivering robust plans and project objectives to solve challenging and innovative problems within Alder Hey and the wider NHS.

Therese Melvin

Job Titles:

  • Qualified Biomedical Scientist
Therese is a Qualified Biomedical Scientist who specialised in Haematology and Blood Transfusion. She has 10+ years NHS experience working in laboratories across the North West which includes 5 years in the Alder Hey Pathology Department. Now as an Innovation Automation Analyst, she is working with the AIHQ team to implement Robotic Processing Automation (RPA) into the departments across the hospital. Her role requires her to understand the processes, discuss how incorporating RPA will benefit the process, staff and the patients and work alongside the RPA developers to implement the change.

Wendy Blumenow

Wendy is a senior specialist speech and language therapist and has been working at Alder Hey for 25 years, she is also deputy lead in the Speech Therapy department. More recently, Wendy has begun to complement her speech therapy job with her new role in The innovation Team as a Senior Clinical Innovation Consultant. Wendy specialises in working with children with craniofacial conditions, children with feeding and swallowing problems and acquired brain injury. Using her clinical expertise and experience Wendy can help to bridge the gap between problem solving in the NHS and innovation, giving a clinical view on the development of new innovative ideas within the NHS.
