The story of the manufacture of the Audubon Collection Direct products starts with how lithographs were produced from the19th century antique Robert Havell engravings. These historic engravings were traced from John James Audubon's life-sized drawings and paintings of over 400 species of birds. To make the lithographs, renowned printing company Princeton Polychrome Press carefully mounted the huge Havell originals before a giant wall-mounted bellows camera with film the same size as the engraving. The mechanical printing plates were then created from the photographic transparencies. Consequently, the resulting lithographs are the exact dimensions, details, and color of the originals. The lithographs became known as the world class Princeton Edition of Audubon's Birds of America. From them, the products of the Audubon Collection Direct are created...
