BLACK FOREST WATER

The Black Forest Water & Wells committee (formed under The Friends of Black Forest) is a Colorado non-profit organization composed of volunteer citizens largely from Black Forest. We meet to discuss current and future issues regarding the water issues of Black Forest. This originated from the need to have advocacy for protecting groundwater sustainability for future generations of Black Forest. In Colorado, water is a limited resource due to our dry, arid climate. Population growth, agriculture, droughts, and residential development have further worsened our limited resources of water. In Black Forest, the water drawn from wells is considered non-renewable, meaning it cannot be replaced as fast as it is being used. The El Paso County Water Master Plan states, groundwater "is not expected to be economically sustainable over the long term".
