We use fluorescent single-walled carbon nanotubes as optical sensors in the near-infrared. We aim to detect target analytes and monitor active processes in biological systems for biomedical applications. We have demonstrated the detection of insulin secreted by β-Cells, cellular oncometabolite, and other biomarkers... Living systems constantly dissipate energy, while consuming chemical fuel at the molecular level. Our goal is to find new methods for estimating the amount of dissipation by identifying time-irreversibility signatures in the dynamics
