Dr Andrew Clare

Dr Andrew Clare joined the Cork Road Clinic in 2015. Dr Clare is originally from Brisbane, Australia and completed his training in Pharmacy followed by training in Medicine at the University of Queensland. His wife is from Cork and over some years helped him to realise that the Rebel County was the ideal place to call home along with their two children. In order to prepare for the breadth and depth of life in General Practice, Dr Clare trained a wide variety of disciplines in urban and rural settings both in Australian and Irish Hospitals including Emergency Medicine. Dr Clare is a Fellow of both the Australian and Irish Colleges of General Practice. He has particular interests in chronic disease management, the quality use of medicines, care of the elderly, pre-hospital emergency medical care, dermatology and minor surgery. Within the multidisciplinary context of the MPHC Dr Clare enjoys participating in research and teaching.

Dr Betty Hyde

Dr Betty Hyde qualified in 1987 from University College Cork with honours in Paediatrics and Psychiatry. She also holds a postgraduate degree in Medicine having obtained MRCPI in 1991. Following this Dr Hyde specialised in General Practice and qualified from the Cork GP Scheme in 1993 with MCGP and MRCGP. Betty joined the Cork Road Clinic in Mallow in 1993. She has a specialist interest in Women's Health and Geriatric Medicine (Diploma in Geriatric Medicine, Cardiff). Betty is involved as an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Limerick Medical School and enjoys training Graduate Medical Entry Students of Limerick at Mallow Primary Healthcare Centre.

Dr John Veitch

After graduating from RCSI in 2011 and completing his GP training in the Mid-West scheme in 2017, John has continued his professional education in several areas. He has postgraduate qualifications in Musculoskeletal Examination and Injury Management; Substance Abuse; Basic Surgical Skills and Reproductive and Sexual Health. He is currently pursuing a special interest in Dermatology.

Dr Liz Gould

Liz graduated from UCC in 2013 and joined the Cork Road Clinic in 2017 to complete the final year of her GP Training on the Cork GP Scheme. Upon completion of her training, she continued to work with the practice and completed a number of courses in Women's Health. She has a keen interest in contraception including LARC fitting and menopause.

Dr Ronel Barnard

Dr Ronel Barnard studied medicine at the University of Stellenbosch, in South Africa and qualified in 1997. She completed her internship and community service at Tygerberg Hospital near Cape Town and spent time in various disciplines including Paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. She then worked in and studied psychiatry as a registrar and Senior House Officer for the next ten years whilst remaining active in general practice and emergency medicine. In 2010 she started working in Maritime medicine and travelled the world. Maritime medicine includes GP work, emergency medicine, occupational health, arranging and managing sea-to-land evacuations. In 2013 she began working in remote site medicine after joining a global assistance company. This involved working in areas with limited access to medical services and providing GP and emergency medical support and ship or air evacuations when required. Her role included travel vaccination management and recommendations, adult and child vaccinations and occupational health. Ronel was actively involved in the training of staff of remote site companies, and the community in first aid skills, locally prevalent diseases and mass casualty responses. In 2018 she came to Ireland to work in the out-of-hours medical service. She joined the Cork Road Clinic in July 2022.

Dr. Giovanni Baldassini

Dr. Giovanni Baldassini graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1989. He developed a special interest in Emergency Medicine, leading to him becoming a diplomate in Emergency Medicine with the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 1991. He practised as a general practitioner in Kwazulu Natal for 17 years, during which time he was appointed District Medical Officer and tasked with medico-legal duties for the District of Eshowe. During his time in General Practice, he enrolled in a Master's Degree in Family Medicine at the University of Stellenbosch in 2006 and qualified as a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners in 2013. He was a trainer in Motivational Interviewing at the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers forum in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2006. Currently, he practices in the Cork Road Clinic, located in the flagship Mallow Primary Healthcare Centre in Mallow, Co. Cork, the Republic of Ireland. He still holds a position as an external lecturer with the Department of Family Practice of the University of Stellenbosch, lecturing on communication skills. In addition, he is also involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical practitioners through University College Cork. As a Medical Advisor and Board member with Helping Hands Adoption Mediation agency, Giovanni is developing his skills and knowledge in the field of adoption medicine.
