Mr. Dec received his B.S. in Accounting from Le Moyne College. Prior to forming Dec & Benson, Mr. Dec obtained experience by working in the audit and tax departments for three very established but different regional CPA firms prior starting his own practice, Michael R. Dec, CPA in 2010. In addition to his practice, Mr. Dec also worked as the controller for various large and medium sized companies while maintaining his part-time tax and accounting practice before finally expanding his firm to a full-time accounting, tax and consulting practice in January 2013.
While many accountants choose to specialize in Audit, Tax, or Private Accounting, Mr. Dec focused his career on obtaining extensive experience in all three areas. The end result of this synergy of knowledge in the private and public sector has helped his clients manage their businesses, understand their financial statements and the needs of external users, and also fulfill their responsibilities as it relates to Federal & State tax return preparation.
During his years in industry, Mr. Dec worked on launching several new businesses with his advanced skills in budgeting, tax planning, and projections. As a corporate controller he helped Synapse Partners, LLC, and its affiliates grow into one of the largest property and casualty insurance wholesalers in the United States.
In his own practice he has worked with and advised small and start-up businesses, as well as medium to large businesses in the areas of organization, monthly accounting, taxes, business opportunity analysis and planning.
In addition, he also maintains a large clientele of individual clients that he advises on taxes as well as preparing their personal and business income tax returns.
Mr. Dec is a Certified Public Accountant in New York State. In 2012 he obtained his Chartered Global Management Accountant designation. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
