GIG-IX

Gig-IX is a carrier-neutral initiative which seeks to improve Internet performance in under-served regions. Gig-IX operates a number of connection points (PoPs) around the world which improves local and regional connectivity for all participating networks. From a technical perspective, each Gig-IX PoP can be thought of as a separate IXP - they are not interconnected and each will likely have a different set of connected networks. From an administrative perspective the sharing of resources, common management team and brand-recognition allows individual PoPs to operate with a much smaller overhead, enabling lower costs for members and more investment in infrastructure...
