Amanda Farrelly

Amanda has over 20 years' experience in the field of medical operations. She joined the practice in 2022 and holds management qualifications from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), the National College of Ireland (NCI), and University College Cork (UCC).

Brian Coffey

Job Titles:
  • Nurse
Brian competed his nurse training in 2003 in DCU and joined the practice in early 2023, having worked in Beaumont hospital for 17 years.

Brid Shanahan

Job Titles:

Dr Shanahan completed medicine in University College Dublin in 2010. She completed her General Practice training in 2015 in the North Dublin City GP Training Scheme. She is a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners. Dr Shanahan joined Summerhill Family Practice in 2016.

Bridget Kiely

Job Titles:
  • Doctor
Dr Kiely graduated from medicine in TCD in 2005 and completed her General Practice training in London in 2014. Prior to that she trained in general medicine and obtained qualification in Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She previously worked in Safetynet Primary Care, before joining the team at Summerhill part time. She is also completing a PhD on Social Prescribing in Primary Care.

Catherine O'Carroll

Catherine joined the practice in 2022 on a voluntary basis having previously worked as a post-primary inspector at Department of Education and Skills. Catherine is a valued member of our dedicated front-of-house team, always ready and available to assist patients and visitors with their needs.

Daragh Byrne

Job Titles:

Dr Byrne completed medicine in UCD in 2003. He completed his General Practice training in 2012 and joined the practice, relocating from Cork, in 2021.

David Walsh

Job Titles:

Dr Walsh completed medicine in RCSI in 2015. He completed his General Practice training in 2022 in the North Dublin City GP Training Scheme. Dr Walsh initially trained in Summerhill Family Practice and officially joined the Practice in 2022.

Dr Austin O'Carroll

Dr Austin O Carroll is an inner-city GP since 1997. The focus of his career has been improving access for communities affected by marginalization or deprivation to quality primary healthcare. He founded several initiatives including Safetynet (2007) which provides GP services to over 6000 marginalized patients annually throughout Ireland. He initiated specialised services in several food halls/drop-ins/hostels; GP services for Roma community in two medical centres; a Mobile Health Unit for rough sleepers; a Mobile Health Screening Unit; He was Medical Director from 2007-2017. He also founded GMQ, a primary care programme for homeless people which also specialises in addiction services (including methadone treatment and alcohol and benzodiazepine detoxes), Partnership for Health Equity, a research, education, policy and service delivery collaboration, North Dublin City GP Training programme, the first programme internationally that trains GP's to work in communities affected by deprivation or marginalization. He also set up the GP service for the McVerry Stabilization Centre in Barrymore House. In 2022, Dr O'Carroll was presented with the Lord Mayors award for his contribution to Dublin life. Dr O'Carroll was Dublin HSE Covid Lead for the Homeless Population between 2020 and 2022. He completed a Doctorate in ethnographic research into the health service usage behaviours of homeless people. He was a co-founding member of Northdoc. He received the Fiona Bradley Award; the Time & Tide Award for his work with migrants; the Healthcare professional of the Year Award 2015 and was awarded an Honorary membership of the RCPI the Doolin Award 2019; and Gertrude Ronan Award 2019. He was awarded the 5 Star Doctor Award from Wonca Europe in 2020. He participated in 2016 Paralympics in sailing.

Dr Brian Melaugh

Dr Brian Melaugh is a lecturer in the Department of Applied Social Studies Maynooth University. Brian has worked extensively in the area of drug practice and drug policy and was CEO of the Ana Liffey Drug Project and chair of UISCE (an organisation that promotes the rights of drug users). He is currently on the Board of Directors of Merchants Quay Ireland.

Gemma Curran

Gemma has been an integral part of our healthcare team since 2016, providing outstanding care to our patients. Currently on maternity leave with an expected return date in early 2024.

Helen Parsons

Helen joined the practice in 2020, leveraging her expertise in patient requirements and administrative duties. With her exceptional empathy, Helen connects with patients and provides them with the support they need. She ensures a seamless and compassionate experience for everyone at the practice.

Julie Stafford

Julie Stafford is the Director of Development, Community and Alumni Relations at NUI Galway. Julie has 20 years' experience building partnerships and working with donors to deliver impact in community and education.

Kevin Kenny

Kevin Kenny is currently the chairperson of GPCareForAll. He was was previously the chairperson of Safetynet Primary Care. He has experience of innovation leadership roles in multinational environment, has assessed social entrepreneur projects for a large SE fund, and is currently consulting on the application of data analytics to medical service probity assessment.

Marie Byrne

Nurse Marie joined us in 2020 as a practice nurse from The Community Intervention Team where she worked as a specialist nurse. Marie completed her training in Kings College, London and worked in hospital and community settings for the last 30 years.

Pauline Nolan

Pauline joined the practice in 2023, with a background in medical facilities management, she has become a dedicated member of the team. She is always readily available to provide help and assistance to patients and visitors.

Philippa Byrne

Síle Kelly

Síle Kelly is the previous chairperson of GP Care for All. She is a CIMA qualified accountant with 20 years' experience in the international FMCG sector across all aspects of project development to implementation. She is on the Board of Directors of Safetynet Primary Care.

Walter Cullen

Job Titles:
  • Professor
Professor Cullen completed medicine in UCD in 1994. He is now a Professor of Urban General Practice at UCD School of Medicine and joined the practice in 2019. He currently works one day per week in Summerhill Family Practice.
