Daniel M. Boardman

Dan Boardman, Principal, ChFC, CFP®, AIF® serves as a Principal of the firm, overseeing Corporate Retirement Plans and Individual Insurance Operations. He is primarily devoted to business development and continues to serve our largest clients. Dan began his career at Hickok & Boardman in 1988. In 1992, he was designated as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and also earned his Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation in 2005. Mr. Boardman is heavily involved with the community, as the past president of The Burlington Boys & Girls Club and currently a Board Trustee of Champlain College. In addition, he is past president of both the Vermont Chapter of the Society of Financial Professionals and the Burlington Association of Life Underwriters. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association and Plan Sponsor Council of America.

Gail joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in 2014 as an Administrative Assistant. Gail is now a Client Manager working closely with our Account Executive/Sr. Client Managers and Account Leads. Her main responsibilities include supporting clients and our senior staff with day-to-day account management and policy renewals. Prior to joining HBHRIQ, Gail worked in the banking industry for 18 years most of which she served as administrative support for the Director of Public Relations and two Small Business Loan Officers. Gail received her Business Administration Degree from Trinity College of Vermont.

Jillian joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence as a Client Manager in June 2019. Prior to joining HBHRIQ, Jillian came from Burton Snowboards with a benefits and wellness background focusing on employee culture, education, and engagement across their North American locations. A graduate of Champlain College with Bachelors of Science in Business, Jillian has been in Vermont on and off for 14 years. In her spare time, Jillian can be found outdoors with her golden retriever or volunteering at local Vermont charities.

Karin Tierney

Karin Tierney, VP of HR Consulting Services joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in September of 2017. Karin brings 20+ years of experience in Human Resources as a specialist, generalist and strategic business partner, having worked in higher education, state government, and manufacturing. Most recently, in her role as head of HR at Vermont Smoke & Cure, she served as a member of the executive leadership team with a focus on providing strategic solutions to achieve business objectives through its employees. Through organizational design and workforce planning, Karin helped to implement initiatives to recruit, develop, engage and retain a dynamic team at a time of rapid growth. Karin leads the H&B HR Consulting practice areas and regularly engages with clients to provide leadership coaching and training, partnering to help leaders grow and develop skills, confidence and resilience to translate into achievement of strategic business results. Karin leads our compensation consulting and HR services practice areas, supporting clients in attracting, engaging, and retaining talent by developing and implementing strategic HR programs and services to gain a competitive edge in the COVID-19 era labor market. Helping organizations to continously improve in all aspects of the employee life cycle, build and communicate their employer brand strategy, and sustain their reputation as an employer of choice. Karin holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science (BA), a Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA), and a Master's degree in Education, Counseling (MEd) from the University of New Hampshire. She is also certified as a Professional of Human Resources (PHR) and a Practitioner of the Predictive Index (PI). Karin and her husband live in the Mad River Valley and enjoy all things outdoors with their dogs.

Katrina Meigs

Katrina joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in March of 2022 as the Director of HR Consulting Services. Katrina is a dynamic, hands-on HR practitioner with over 20 years of HR management experience in higher education, healthcare, and private industry. She is a strategic business partner to senior organizational leaders and provides expertise in policy design, compensation analysis and program management, performance management, recruiting and retention programs, compliance reporting, HRIS implementations, HR workflow development, training and development, and benefits administration. Katrina comes to H&B HR Consulting team from the Vermont State Colleges System where she served as System Director of Human Resources and Benefits Administration. There, she led the VSCS through a full-scale centralized implementation of an HRIS, consolidating the employee benefits, payroll, and HR functions for five campuses. Katrina's role provided the VSCS leadership and expertise in HR compliance best practices and addressing employee needs throughout the full employment life cycle, and most recently in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Katrina earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology (BA) from Northern Vermont University (formally Lyndon State College). She recently served for 3 years on the Northern New England Colleges Universities Professional Association Board of Directors as the Vermont Representative lending a strategic view of higher education workplace issues. Katrina resides in St. Johnsbury with her family and 2 dogs and enjoys all activities outdoors.

Krystal Ludorf

Krystal is our process management associate and supports the operations team. She prepares your Investment Committee meeting materials, minutes and proactively schedules your Investment Committee meetings. She is responsible for workflow management to ensure we exceed your expectations.

Lisa Wells

Job Titles:

Lisa joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in 2003. In her current role, Lisa provides HR and benefits consulting, employee education and communication support, financial modeling, and strategic planning services to our small and mid-market clients. In addition, she oversees our Small Group Division. Lisa specializes in a wide range of funding arrangements including fully insured, level funding, self-funding, and captive arrangements. Lisa resides in Colchester with her daughter and she enjoys skiing, hiking, running, and volunteering her time in the community working with the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, Vermont Special Olympics and the Lake Champlain Committee.

Marci Taks

Marci joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in January 2002. Originally responsible for implementing web-based technology solutions to Hickok & Boardman clients, Marci now serves the firm as a Senior Client Manager where she works closely with the firm's large group client segment. Some responsibilities include working with clients on their benefit plan design, installing and administering the employer-sponsored employee benefits program and understanding the up-to-date Federal and State compliance regulation so clients are kept well-informed. Prior to joining H&B HR Intelligence, Marci spent nine years in San Francisco, where she worked at a Information Technology consulting firm, recruiting InformationTechnology professionals for Fortune 500 companies. In addition to her duties at HR Intelligence, Marci is an active participant in volunteer work with organizations such as the Red Cross, Respite House and the United Way of Chittenden County. Marci attended the University of South Florida where she majored in Business Administration.

Melanie Brown

Melanie is a Series 66 registrant and is also a Certified Wealth Strategist (CWS) and Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF). Melanie has worked in the Financial Services Industry since 2003. She has been an Investment Advisor Representative to corporate retirement plans, a Private Banker, and a Financial Planner to high net worth clients. Melanie is our Retirement Education Specialist and Financial Wellness Coach. She will meet with participants on an individual basis to provide investment guidance where appropriate and will also facilitate workshops on Financial Wellness. As the Practice Leader for Investment Education, Melanie will work with you to develop a customized education plan to effectively meet the needs of your company.

Michelina Covey

Michelina joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in October of 2018 as the Director of HR Compliance. With almost 20 years in Human Resources, Michelina brings invaluable experience to both the firm and our clients. Michelina serves as the Compliance lead in supporting the firm's clients in all aspects of HR and benefits compliance. As the rules/regulations are constantly changing, employers are faced with trying to understand and comply with the increasing complexity and changes. Michelina is dedicated to helping our clients understand what these changes mean and adopting best practices. In addition, she also supports multiple clients in managing their day-to-day HR functions as part of our HR Services Consulting practice area. Prior to coming onboard, Michelina spent 12.5 years at Burton Snowboards working as an HR Business Partner. In her role at Burton, she was responsible for providing a full range of HR services to employees including 15 satellite Retail locations in both Canada & the US and successfully partnering with key management team members to provide strategic solutions to the business units. Throughout her tenure, she helped retain and develop the employee base while mitigating legal risks to the company. Michelina came to the Green Mountain State to pursue her degree at St. Michael's College and is also certified as a Professional of Human Resources (PHR). In her free time, she can be found enjoying the outdoors with her black lab Jaxson.

Sally McKenzie - SVP

Sally joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in 1999 as a Client Manager and in 2002 was promoted to Senior Client Manager. On January 1, 2013, she also assumed Account Lead responsibilities for a select segment of our large group clients. Effective January 1, 2018, Sally became a Partner with Hickok & Boardman Financial Planning and HR Intelligence. As an Account Executive/Senior Client Service Manager, she assists and works closely with the firm's large group client segment with their benefit plan design, installing and administering the employer sponsored employee benefits programs, adhering to Federal and State compliance regulation, as well as contract and financial review of their benefits programs, all while enjoying the detail and constant change of this industry. She also serves as the primary point of contact for clients and their insurance carriers, vendors and benefit administrators. As a Partner with Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence, Sally will continue to work closely with her clients to deliver employee benefit solutions in the areas of benefit plan design implementation, new carrier or vendor implementations, compliance guidance, project management, financial oversight and member services research and resolution. In addition, she will lead the organization's Client Manager Practice Area and together with the other partners cultivate the organizational strategy and culture as well as continue to build and nurture vendor/partner relationships. Prior to joining Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence, Sally worked in a variety of human resource management positions in Louisiana, Florida and Vermont where she utilized her management and leadership skills to develop employees and implement policy and strategic objectives. Sally also has an accounting background and experience in both the hospitality and economic industries, which allows her to provide clients with a broad perspective on their employee benefit initiatives. Sally is an active participant in her community where she serves as a board member on the United Way of Northwest Vermont Community Health Impact Team and donates her time to the Vermont Special Olympics and her daughter's local school parent association. In 2006, Sally was nominated for the United Way of Northwest Vermont Volunteer of the Year award. Sally graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) with a degree in Business Administration in 1986. She resides in South Burlington, Vermont with her husband and daughter.

Shaun T. King

Shaun King is series 65 registered as an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR). Shaun has worked in the retirement plan industry since 1996 and spent his first 10 years as a Third Party Administrator. He joined Hickok & Boardman Retirement Solutions in 2006 and became a Principal in 2010. He is involved in all facets of our retirement business. His technical experience benefits you when contemplating plan design changes or when you have questions related to your day-to-day administration. He leads our consulting services assisting plan sponsors with request for proposals, vendor benchmarking and plan design feasibility analysis. Shaun will participate in your investment selection and monitoring process and is the primary advisor to many of our client relationships.

Stacey Sharp

Stacey joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in 2012, where, in her role as an Executive Business Partner, she provides professional support for the company's Principals. Stacey's responsibilities include preparing financial reports, handling licensing for the company, conducting the VT Benefits Survey, managing the yearly HR conference, and a wide array of other duties as assigned. In addition to the functions she serves within her capacity as an Executive Business Partner, Stacey also coordinates marketing efforts such as the company website and social media. Stacey has a great deal of experience in office administration. Prior to joining H&B HR Intelligence, Stacey provided support for several top-level executives simultaneously at other companies. She has also managed the Request for Proposal process for previous employers, including editing and preparing the proposals, as well as organizing and facilitating regular presentation sessions. Stacey earned her BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing. Stacey's marketing background has proven advantageous to every company she has worked for, as she has helped launch several websites, coordinated marketing efforts for conferences, and assisted in corporate marketing efforts that focus on brand development. In addition to her professional work experience, Stacey enjoys volunteering and spending time with her amazingly cute dog Olive.

Steve May

Steve May joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in January, 2019. Steve has more than 27 years of experience in the healthcare market as an underwriter and health benefits consultant. Prior to joining Hickock & Boardman, Steve worked for The Segal Company where he led the East Region Public Sector Health Practice. More recently, he worked for Milliman as the lead consultant for large employer groups. Steve has worked closely with the states of Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire. He has been the health care benefits consultant for the State of Vermont for nearly 20 years. His work includes managing RFP processes, budget projections, funding arrangement analysis, strategic plan design analysis, building collaborative purchasing arrangements, presenting analysis to legislative bodies, collective bargaining, and expert testimony at arbitration hearings. Prior to becoming a healthcare consultant Steve was employed by CIGNA as a senior underwriter and instructor specializing in large case group underwriting. Steve is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association and Public Employer Labor Relations Association. He has spoken frequently at local and national conferences regarding the Medicare Modernization Act, prescription drugs, and controlling health benefits costs. Steve is a graduate of Bryant University and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in business with a concentration in finance.

Teri Martineau

Teri joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in January 2017. Teri has over 25 years of experience in the health insurance field with a concentration in assisting small employers with fewer than 50 employees. Teri has worked in various departments at both BCBS of New Hampshire and then transferring to BCBS of Vermont in 1987. Teri began working for an independent employee benefits firm in 2007 where she helped provide employee benefit solutions to clients with up to 50 employees. In 2014, Teri re-joined BCBS of Vermont as an Exchange Specialist, specializing in the sales and service of the health plans designed around the Affordable Care Act.

Tom Rugg - SVP

Tom joined Hickok & Boardman HR Intelligence in 2001. Tom's original duties centered on financial management of some of the firm's largest accounts. In this capacity, he developed expertise with alternative funding arrangements, financial analysis, and plan design modeling. He has since become an Account Executive with lead responsibility for medium and large size clients in the firm, consulting with them on benefit strategy, design, and implementation. Prior to joining Hickok & Boardman, Tom spent several years in the Washington, DC, office of Senator Jim Jeffords. He also worked as a lobbyist for one of the nation's largest agricultural associations. In addition to his work with Hickok & Boardman, Tom serves as Trustee on the Board of the Lund Family Center and also served as the Chair of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce Health Care Committee from 2004 to 2006. He is widely known to be one of the premier experts in the area of health care reform and its impact on employers in the state of Vermont. As such, he is frequently called upon to speak on the issue of health care reform throughout the state. Tom graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in 1992, and also received his MBA from the University of Vermont with a specialty in Finance in 2001.
