Christian K. Kim

Doctor Kim grew up in Southern California where he studied Microbiology at UCLA, graduating with Honors in 1988. He attended medical school at Saint Louis University and residency in Ophthalmology at Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Kim completed a research and clinical fellowship at the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in New Orleans with Marguerite McDonald, M.D., FACS. Dr. McDonald is the first surgeon in the world to perform laser vision corrective surgery on a sighted human eye and trained Dr. Kim to perform laser vision correction procedures (LASIK among others). Dr. Kim practiced previously for 10 years in Sonoma County. He has now performed more than 10,000 laser vision correction surgeries as well as cataract and corneal procedures. Dr. Kim is on the clinical faculty at California Pacific Medical Center. His focus in practice is on corneal, refractive and anterior segment procedures, including cataract. Dr. Kim is certified by VISX and is Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kim joined MarinEyes in 2008 and resides in San Francisco. Doctor Kim enjoys outdoor sports of all kinds and especially enjoys spending time with his dog.

Dr. Patricia Tang

Dr. Patricia Tang was born and raised in San Francisco. She received her Bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. She then completed her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL graduating summa cum laude. Her clinical training includes internships at the Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Detroit, MI and Las Vegas, NV as well as Davis Eye Care Associates in Oak Lawn, IL and the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind or Visually Impaired. Dr. Tang has received extensive training in the treatment and management of ocular disease and is experienced in fitting disposable, toric and multifocal contact lenses. In her free time, she is an avid foodie, enjoys hiking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Jacqueline Chretien

Jacqueline (Jacki) grew up in Los Gatos, California and attended the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California majoring in language arts. She continued her education at the West Valley College in Saratoga, California, graduating from the medical assistant program. She also studied culinary arts, a pastime she enjoys today. Jacki has worked at medical practices throughout the San Francisco Bay Area since 1974, including North Bay Eye Associates from 1993 through 2006. She joined MarinEyes in 2008 as Director of Refractive Surgery Program and was instrumental in the practice's expansion to the Novato office which is the site of MarinEyes' laser vision correction surgical suite. She enjoys working with her colleagues at MarinEyes to continue to build the refractive surgery program. Jacki is married to Denis Chretien and they live in Penngrove, California where they raised their daughter. She enjoys cooking, baking and gardening. She is active in the Professional Women in Business in Sonoma, California.

John C. Shin

John C. Shin, M.D. was raised in Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed his internship at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Shin served his Residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and completed fellowship training in corneal and external disease and refractive surgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Since joining MarinEyes in 1998, Dr. Shin has performed more than 4,000 cataract surgeries. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology with an emphasis on cataract and glaucoma. He views the doctor patient relationship as a partnership and encourages patients to be active participants in their care. Dr. Shin lives in San Rafael and balances his medical credentials with experience as a professional lead guitarist and music appreciator as well as interests in computers, fishing, hiking, cooking, gymnastics and tennis.

Karen Whorton

Karen has been working for Marin Eyes/Marin Ophthalmic Surgery Center since 1991. She currently manages the surgical services of our Surgery Center and is a certified ophthalmic technician with a sub specialty in surgical assisting. Outside of Marin Eyes Karen enjoys teaching indoor cycling classes, paddle boarding and hiking. She lives in Petaluma with a wonderful family and two dogs. Enjoy elite, comprehensive, specialty care for most vision needs provided locally to Marin County and surrounding areas.

Kristine Adams

Kristine grew up in Cobb located in Lake County, California. She recently graduated from the University of San Francisco, with a bachelors of science in Health Services. She has extensive knowledge and experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant, having worked in the field at various practices in the Bay Area for more than 15 years. Kristine joined MarinEyes in 2010. In December of 2012, due to her technical expertise and dedication to patients she was appointed Director of Technical Services. Kristi takes pride in the services MarinEyes offers, making sure the team of technicians are all highly qualified and trained in every aspect of patient care. She pays special attention to LASIK, cataract and other surgical patients to ensure they have a comfortable experience. Kristine lives in Cotati with her husband and young son. They enjoy motorcycle rides together and walking their two miniature dachshunds.

Susan Cunningham

Dr. Cunningham was born and raised in Indiana, and attended Purdue University and Indiana University for her undergraduate studies in Psychology and Cytotechnology. After working for several years in laboratories screening for cancer, she decided she wanted to interact on a more personal level with patients, so she studied Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley. While a student there, she gained experience through clinical rotations at the Sacramento Society for the Blind, the San Francisco Veteran's Administration Hospital, and at Beale Air Force Base. She also volunteered in Nicaragua to give eye exams and glasses to people in need, and was the Suitcase Clinic Coordinator in Berkeley for two years, helping disadvantaged people obtain eye care at the school clinic. Since graduating in 2003, she has been working in eye care clinics in the bay area, and she joined Marin Eyes in 2016. Outside of optometry, she spends time with her family. She also volunteers with her son's boy scout troop, and enjoys going on hiking and camping trips with them.
