My name is Anne Punkkinen. I was born, raised, educated and have worked in Sudbury, Ontario for my entire life. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from Laurentian University in 1993 and was then accepted into the first ever Ontario Midwifery Programme and obtained my Bachelor of Health Science in Midwifery (BHScM) degree in 1996. I worked as a Registered Midwife for 6 years and attended over 400 births. I have conducted 1000's of home visits during this time visiting new moms and their infants in their homes... After leaving midwifery, I worked as a Community Health Nurse for 10 years on a First Nation reserve close to Sudbury. My primary role was health promotion and prevention although I also developed many programs, did home visiting, conducted assessments for community members, diabetes education, immunizations, and communicable disease tracking.
