Ashley Scott

With experience in every major market in Canada, Ashley is a recruitment industry veteran. She has worn many hats throughout her professional career; she has a multi-faceted skillset and is an expert in all things administration. Ashley is dedicated to supporting the growth of Smith Legal Search and is integral to the seamless functioning of operations and communications for all the firm's offices nationwide. Ashley ensures the team and search process are managed to the highest standards, while providing clear communication to clients and candidates alike throughout every search engagement. She also provides all administrative support to the team and handles the operational aspects of the firm. Prior to joining Smith Legal Search, Ashley began her corporate career in the UK. Since then, she has worked several client facing roles in client engagement, administration, and most recently before this role, in recruitment administration. An avid traveller, Ashley has visited cities around the world (including the years living in London, UK). She enjoys the experience of immersing herself in different, diverse places and cultures, and discovering new points of view along the way. These days, Ashley has settled back to her home province in Calgary, Alberta, where her surrounding family resides (complete with her adorable nieces and nephews!).

Beth Mountford

Beth is a thoughtful and strategic legal recruiter with a natural talent for helping lawyers navigate critical career decisions. With attentive listening skills and genuine curiosity, she takes the time to get to know her clients so she can provide the best long-term career planning advice. Drawing on her prior experience as a counselor, Beth takes pride in helping her clients identify their true long-term career interests. Beth excels in leveraging her network to connect lawyers with the most meaningful opportunities in the market that most closely aligned with their goals. Having practiced with both boutique and national law firms on Bay Street, Beth's experience as a lawyer offers a unique perspective that blends both large and small firm practice dynamics in assessing career goals. Her experience allows her to help find unique solutions to career questions top performers routinely face. Beth firmly believes lawyers can enjoy what they do! In addition to legal recruiting, she is passionate about improving mental health within the legal profession. She is regularly called upon by firms, corporations, and the Ontario Bar Association to lead a range of CPD workshops on mental health issues, particularly around stress and anxiety in the practice of law. Outside the office, Beth is a competitive marathon runner. While most of us are happy if we can run to Starbucks, Beth's running includes qualifying for elite-level, international marathons (including Boston, Chicago, New York, and Berlin, to name but a few). Dave Namkung

Dave has honed a truly unique ability to deliver results for clients and candidates alike through a combination of his genuine enthusiasm for the craft of lawyer recruitment, immersion in and contribution to the legal community, and leveraging his technical experience from executive search and coaching. Many of Canada's top firms, organizations, in-house departments, and candidates consider Dave as their primary trusted legal market expert. In addition to lawyer recruitment, he has years of experience in executive search and has led a range of complex Executive Director/President/C-suite search campaigns for universities, crown corporations, non-profits and public and private corporations. His multi-disciplinary background was intentionally honed over the past decade to empower his clients to draw from a range of best practices utilized by top organizations and executives, including strategies to streamline searches and enhance Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion outcomes ("EDI"). Dave was a founding member of the EDI committee of a national executive search firm, led numerous EDI-influenced searches in executive and legal search, and he has been an active leader within the diversity community, especially with the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers' BC Chapter. He was a founding executive member and President of FACL BC, helping to grow the organization from a dozen or so volunteers to one of our sector's most impactful diversity organizations. Jeremiah Hunter

With an in-depth understanding of the Canadian legal market and a thoughtful, strategic approach to recruitment, Jeremiah acts as a trusted advisor for both lawyers and organizations. Having navigated an international move early in his professional career (from Australia to Canada), Jeremiah brings great personal perspective to major career decisions that encompass both personal and professional reasons when contemplating a move. He regularly draws on his personal experience to assist lawyers in identifying meaningful opportunities that best align their personal and professional aspirations that allow them to achieve their best career outcomes. Prior to joining Smith Legal Search, Jeremiah worked as a lawyer recruiter for a national search firm; he also previously worked as a talent acquisition expert for a major Canadian bank. These experiences, combined with his background in business strategy and consulting, allow Jeremiah to bring a unique perspective to lawyers as they navigate law firm and in-house opportunities in the Canadian market. Outside the office, Jeremiah embraces all the natural beauty Alberta has to offer. He can regularly be found hiking, camping, and getting his truck stuck in difficult outdoor terrain (read: lakes), and skiing in the winter months. He is also deeply passionate about partnering with First Nation communities and learning more about the many cultures he shares this land with. Trevin Sewell
