TRANS RESISTANCE - Key Persons
Anthony currently is in Jamaica Plain, MA, working with AIDS Action Committee of MA as their Social Determinants of Health Data Specialist, focusing on data and reporting for legal and housing programs supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Anthony is committed to constantly learning and leveraging resources towards community care and well-being, and also working to build sustainable new systems that challenge and reimagine the world we know today. This includes intentionally centering anti-racism ideas and the experiences of gender-diverse people every step of the way.
Casey is one of the co-founders of Pride 4 the People and Boston Black Pride. She has been involved in community activism and LGBTQ volunteer work since high school. Casey has been a color and curl specialist for nearly 20 years and is on a mission to teach people how to love their curls. She combines her work in the community with her hairstyling work by offering hair education classes to foster parents of children currently in DCF care.
She is a recent Emerge Program graduate and is currently enrolled in the Ron Simmons Leadership Institute. Casey strives to make sure people with disabilities get access to needed resources and is particularly involved in the intersection of disability justice and justice for QTBIPOC people. When she's not tending to her plants, she is petting her many orange cats.
Jess French, also known as "Frenchy" is a local activist, community leader, and DJ. She has hosted many fundraisers for the LGBTQIA community and the homeless for the past 12 years. Frenchy has and loves to create safe spaces and events for TQBIPOC in Boston, MA. She is dedicated to the TQBIPOC community of Boston and is excited to make Boston more inclusive. Frency is very outspoken, resourceful, and goal-oriented, and with those qualities, she is determined to be the leader the community needs.
Julia is an award winning educator and scholar activist. Much of the work Julia has created has centered Trans/Queer and/or BIPOC communities. From policy writing to creating educational institutes to creating workshops around self-reflection and joy. Julia is no stranger to challenging higher education to be more inclusive of Trans individuals on a regional and national level. Julia is a doctoral candidate at UMass Boston where they study secondary racial battle fatigue and compassion fatigue.
KB is a teacher, writer, and community organizer living in Cambridge, MA. They write poetry and essays, and teach English and creative writing. In addition to classroom teaching, he advises an affinity space for transgender youth and participates in equity and inclusion programming. KB is committed to trans inclusivity and anti-racism, particularly in education and athletics. Before getting involved with Trans Resistance MA, they volunteered for the Yes on 3 Campaign (2018) to uphold transgender legal protections in Massachusetts.
Nicholas works in clinical research where he works to increase the representation of BIPOC transgender persons. In that, he wants to see more empirical evidence that addresses the many disparities that mark the community. Further, Nich brings 8+ years of LGBT activism and racial social justice knowledge and personal experience that helps fuel his passions to help Black and Brown transgender persons access and maintain institutional power and heal.
