River is a large, natural stream of water flowing towards an ocean or sea. Constant flow of water contributes to erosion, which is a natural phenomenon. The process of hydraulic action, abrasion and erosion steadily wears away the riverbanks over time. As a result of this, adjoining slopes become unstable and eventually erodes, giving rise to the problem of slope failure and siltation which partly contributes to flooding. Protection of river toe and slope are essential in preventing river erosion.
