Alan Clamp is the Authority's Chief Executive Alan Clamp became the Chief Executive of the Professional Standards Authority on 1 November 2018. He was formerly the Chief Executive of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). The SIA is a public body that regulates private security in the UK. It supports the key priorities of the Home Office by contributing to the reduction and prevention of crime, and to public protection. Alan previously held the post of Chief Executive at the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), an independent regulator sponsored by the Department of Health. Prior to this he worked in regulation in the education sector, including several years at Ofsted. In addition to working for over 20 years in regulation, Alan is a Trustee of the Institute of Regulation and a member of the Management Committee at the Parole Board for England and Wales.

Amrat Khorana

Amrat Khorana is an Associate Board member Amrat Khorana holds a BSc in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Immunology. Amrat spent most of his early scientific career in academia, research, and teaching, including working at Northampton General Hospital in its Immunology Department. In other work as a freelance consultant, Amrat has provided analytical and quality assurance services in pharmacology to ensure the safety of drug development for human clinical trials, and has served as a lay examiner for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, focusing on patient safety. In recent years, Amrat has supported education and training of the bioscience community across the UK, as well as the NHS workforce at Great Ormond Street Hospital and at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. His current work involves working with subject matter experts to develop the education service for NHS staff, using digital technology, and consulting on curriculum design to ensure it is safe, inclusive, and accessible.

Antony Townsend is Deputy Chair of the Board and Chair of the Scrutiny Committee. Antony is also Chair of the Determinations Panel of the Pensions Regulator; an Independent Chair for NHS Continuing Healthcare Reviews; an Independent Investigator for the House of Commons; Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board of the Bar Tribunals and Adjudication Service; and a Director of the Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman Service. He is a Trustee of Citizens Advice South Warwickshire. Antony was Complaints Commissioner for the Financial Services Regulators (2014-2020; Chair, Regulatory Board, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (2014-2019); Chair, UK and Ireland Regulatory Board, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (2013-2020). Earlier, Antony was Chief Executive of the Solicitors Regulation Authority from 2006 to 2014, Chief Executive of the General Dental Council (2001-2006); a Director at the General Medical Council (1900-2001); and a Home Office civil servant working principally on criminal justice issues (1980-1990).

Caroline Corby - Chairman

Caroline Corby is Chair of the Authority's Board Caroline Corby worked in the City for 13 years, specialising in private equity. During this period she served as a non-executive director on around 10 private sector boards across a range on industries. After taking a career break to raise her three daughters, Caroline joined the board of London Probation Trust in 2007 and subsequently became Chair of the organisation. Since 2015 she has undertaken a number of public appointments including being on the board of Cafcass, the Criminal Cases Review Commission and the Architects Registration Board. As well as her role as Chair of the Professional Standards Authority, Caroline is also Chair of the Parole Board for England and Wales, Chair of One Housing Group, a Non-Executive Director for the Security Industry Authority and a member of the management committee of the Public Chairs' Forum, a member-led body with a remit to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public services in the UK.

Christine Braithwaite

Christine is our Director of Standards and Policy. She leads our team responsible for providing advice on regulation, setting standards, developing research and encouraging learning and debate. She is also our external relations lead. Christine has previously worked as Head of Investigations and Enforcement at the Care Quality Commission and headed the Healthcare Commission's healthcare infection inspection programme. She also worked for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. She holds a masters in law. Christine is currently devoting time to making room for wildlife in her garden, especially hedgehogs, butterflies, beetles and bees.

Dr Tom Frawley

Dr Tom Frawley CBE is a Board member. After studying at Trinity College Dublin Tom joined the NHS as a Graduate Trainee in 1971.His career in Health and Social Care culminated in appointment as Chief Administrative Officer of the Western Health and Social Services Board in 1985. In 2000 Tom was appointed by Royal Warrant to the Office of Northern Ireland Ombudsman. In 2002 the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly asked Tom to also undertake the role of the Assembly's Commissioner for Standards, an office he held until 2012.Tom retired as Ombudsman in 2016. In 2016 was appointed as the Northern Ireland member on the Board of the Professional Standards Authority, he will complete his second term on the Board in 2023. In 2019 Tom was appointed to the Northern Ireland Police Board In 2020 he was elected Vice Chair of the Board. His current term will end in November 2022.

Frances is a Chartered Accountant whose career has spanned public, private and third sectors. Her previous roles include Director of Finance and later Chief Executive of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council; Chief Executive of Manchester 2002 Ltd, the Organising Committee of the successful XVII Commonwealth Games; Managing Director for Local Government, Housing and Criminal Justice at the Audit Commission, and Chair of the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales. Marcus Longley

Professor Marcus Longley is a Board member Marcus was the Chair of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board from 2017 to 2021, and before that was Vice Chair of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board from 2013 to 2017. Marcus has also served as a Board Member for the Welsh Consumer Council, and for Consumer Focus Wales and was until August 2017 Professor of Applied Health Policy and Director of the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care, University of South Wales. He is now Professor Emeritus. He has been an Expert Advisor to the Bevan Commission, having previously been a Member there, and is a Senior Associate at The Nuffield Trust. Marcus was educated at the universities of Oxford, Cardiff and Bristol, and worked in the NHS from 1981 to 1995. Mark is our Director of Scrutiny and Quality. He leads our team responsible for scrutinising the work of the nine regulators of health and care professionals. Through this work, they identify and share good practice. Mark has worked predominantly in the legal field. He started his career in what was then the Lord Chancellor's Department before joining the Bar Council. He led the Council's complaints and regulatory work before becoming the first Director of the Bar Standards Board. Between 2008 and 2015, he was Director of Legal Policy at the Law Society of England and Wales.

Moi Ali

Board member Moi has over 30 years' experience in communications and training within the public and voluntary sectors. She has written 20 books on marketing and communications, for leading publishers such as Dorling Kindersley, including a communications handbook for health and care professionals. An experienced non-executive director and chair, she is the Independent Assessor of Complaints for the Crown Prosecution Service, and sits on the Ministry of Defence Police Board (where she chairs the People Committee), and on the Scottish Government's Interim Governance Group to Develop National Anti-Racist Infrastructure. Moi was Scotland's first Judicial Complaints Reviewer. Previous Board roles include Chair of Action Against Medical Accidents, Vice President of the NMC; Board Member of both Postwatch and the Postal Redress Service; Education Scotland; Scottish Police Authority; Scottish Ambulance Service; and Edinburgh Napier University. During her consulting career she led hundreds of projects for a wide range of clients including developers, operators and funders in the UK, Europe and Middle East. Renata has had a long-standing interest in health sector issues. She was an elected Trustee at Diabetes UK, and also at National Voices.
