Founded in the year 1932, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is the largest trade union for public employees. AFSCME acts as a steward to 1.3 million public sector employees and retirees. We help health care workers, correction officers, sanitation workers, police officers, firefighters, and child care providers... AFSCME fights for the social and economic rights of their dependencies in the workplace through political and legislative advocacy. It is divided into 3400 local unions in the US, and the districts of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
