Our research revolves around investigating mechanisms underlying consciousness, coma, and global stroke with a focus on cardiac arrest (CA) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Our lab is the first cardiac arrest and resuscitation lab at UC Irvine, incorporating a combination of basic science, translational, and clinical research aspects. Since the Principal Investigator (Dr. Yama Akbari) is a practicing neurointensivist in the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit (Neuro-ICU) of the UC Irvine Medical Center, our lab is closely intertwined with unmet clinical needs of patients suffering from acute brain injury, an area of drastic need for research
