Alejandra Solorzano

Alejandra, or Ale, Solorzano became the Michigan Engagement Manager at BDT in 2022. She is responsible for cultivating new relationships and networks across the state to combat poverty by transforming how residents access benefits. Ale manages communications between the state agency and the internal operations teams to move BDT initiatives forward. She also conducts presentations and meetings with partners throughout the region. Ale has her bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of California Berkeley, and she began working in the non-profit industry more than 15 years ago. She has worked with low-income populations, marginalized communities of color, and youths, helping them to access educational opportunities and community development resources. She has also led community organizing initiatives throughout Southern California. Now that she has relocated to the state of Michigan, she is excited to learn from the communities and organizations in the region and continue to help those that are often left behind.

Alexis Clark

Alexis Clark, as the Associate Director of Research, spearheads all facets of research and evaluation initiatives at BDT. Collaborating closely with BDT's Senior Leadership team, she strategically drives research endeavors to achieve organizational objectives while continuously refining the research strategy. She also oversees projects dedicated to uncovering barriers to accessing public benefits, as well as forging partnerships across sectors to optimize BDT's support for entities in higher education, healthcare, and government. With over a decade of diverse experience in the nonprofit sector, Alexis began her journey in Philadelphia's public schools, where she taught science before transitioning to developing community-based programs for K-12 students. At The Franklin Institute Science Museum, she steered strategic planning and research activities, contributing significantly to the organization's mission. Driven by the exigencies of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexis pivoted her career trajectory to manage an internationally recognized epilepsy program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This experience deepened her interest in understanding the benefits gap and led her to conduct benefits-focused research at BDT. Alexis holds a B.A. and an M.S. in biology from Arcadia University and Saint Joseph's University, respectively. She has also obtained certificates in project management from Cornell University and nonprofit leadership from LaSalle University.

Alison Clarke

Alison Clarke is the New York Engagement Manager of Benefits Data Trust. She is responsible for working closely with government agencies, community-based organizations, and non-profits streamlining access to public benefits for New Yorkers. Prior to joining BDT, Alison worked for over 15 years in the NYC municipal government and the health and human services nonprofit sector. In her most recent previous role, Alison oversaw implementation of Family First for foster care congregate settings and helped enhance systems to improve foster care searches in NYC. She led a large homeless services case management project from inception to completion, integrating disparate programs. She worked in the early days of online benefit screening tools in NYC, streamlining benefits access for NYC's most vulnerable residents. Alison has an MPA from NYU's Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and earned her BA at Barnard College. She resides in Brooklyn, NY with her family where she enjoys volunteering in her local park.

Alyssa Wagner - CHRO

Alyssa Wagner has been involved in the Human Resources and Accounting Departments of Benefits Data Trust since the organization's inception in 2005. In her current role as the Vice President of People, she leads the team dedicated to making BDT a great place to work. Alyssa oversees the organization's talent acquisition, development, and management activities. Alyssa has over 20 years of experience in the human resources and accounting fields. During her tenure at BDT, she has worked closely with the leadership team and managers to establish employee policies and procedures, organizational culture, hiring practices, and employee engagement initiatives. Alyssa received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Marketing from Rutgers University School of Business and is a self-proclaimed Jersey Girl. Alyssa sees her tenure at BDT as a great privilege and the highlight of her career.

Ben Irwin

Ben is the Content Strategist for Benefits Data Trust, responsible for promoting BDT's key programs, services, and initiatives. He develops web content, emails, marketing collateral and more, helping BDT communicate with clarity and consistency. Prior to joining BDT, Ben was an independent writer and brand strategist, helping nonprofits, community-based organizations, and tech startups hone their brand messaging and content strategies. Before that he oversaw communications for a humanitarian aid organization serving families displaced by conflict. Ben has also worked an editor for HarperCollins Publishers. Ben graduated from Taylor University with a bachelor's degree in business and political science. In his spare time, he serves as a volunteer advisor to a refugee support agency in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich. He also enjoys gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family.

Bridget Gibbons Straughan

Bridget Gibbons Straughan is a Government Innovation Manager at Benefits Data Trust. In her role, she supports state agencies in creating and implementing action plans to make public benefits systems more equitable, dignified, and proactive. Since joining BDT in 2015, she has held a variety of roles focused on program and relationship management with government partners to implement BDT's outreach initiatives in New York City, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Maryland, and Colorado. Most recently, she served as BDT's New York Engagement Manager, working closely with city government partners to help streamline benefits access and leading an effort to coordinate a tech-enabled network of community-based organizations who help New Yorkers enroll in benefits. She previously worked as a business analyst at a civic tech company focused on benefits access and provided case management for tenants facing eviction as a housing unit paralegal at Community Legal Services in Philadelphia. Bridget is a member of the Contemplative Leaders in Action initiative, a New Leaders Council Philadelphia alum, and is certified in Mental Health First Aid. She earned her B.A. in Political Science from Haverford College and has a master's in Public Administration with a concentration in Urban & Social Policy from Columbia University.

Conor Carroll is a Pennsylvania Engagement Manager at Benefits Data Trust. He manages the BenePhilly initiative and leads conversations with the organization's partners in Philadelphia. Prior to joining BDT in 2020, Conor was a researcher for Georgetown's Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation and a social impact fellow at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for High Impact Philanthropy, where he was the lead author of a report on philanthropy and democracy. Previously, Conor worked as a senior research analyst with Gartner, where he managed a budget and staffing benchmark survey. He is an AmeriCorps alum and served in research roles at the U.S. Treasury Department and the Joint Economic Committee. Daniel O'Donnell

Daniel O'Donnell serves as the Associate Director of Higher Education Innovation at Benefits Data Trust. He is responsible for growing and managing BDT's higher education portfolio of work - with a focus on state systems and agencies - to connect students to Pell Grants, SNAP, and other assistance to help them succeed in college. Daniel is a passionate advocate for educational access, and a strong believer in life-long learning. He has spent his career working for mission-driven organizations. As the former Senior Manager of Strategic Partnerships at Merit America, Daniel led partnership strategy and expansion for the fastest-growing nonprofit in the United States - providing an alternative pathway to postsecondary education to thousands of low-income individuals across the country. As the Associate Director of Graduate Enrollment Management at the top-ranked Indiana University O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Daniel managed graduate enrollment for seven graduate-degree programs, and oversaw a $4 million financial aid budget. Currently, Daniel serves on the board of directors of Oak Point University, a nursing and radiography college in suburban Chicago that focuses on serving nontraditional students. Erika Blumenthal is Chief Operating Officer of Benefits Data Trust (BDT). In this role, she directs the efforts of three key teams who are responsible for operational excellence at BDT, and she is also responsible for improving and developing an efficient and dignified client experience. Erika leads a large team of employees who attract, retain, and grow existing relationships-as well as build new ones-to help BDT connect people to the social safety net for better health and financial security. Erika brings over 20 years of experience in operations management across both multi-state and international programs, as well as six years in education management, teaching, and learning. Prior to joining BDT, she was Vice President of Operations at Kaplan, one of the world's largest education providers. At Kaplan, Erika was instrumental in scaling operations for many growing business lines including nursing education, virtual simulation, and more. Erika earned her B.A. from La Salle University and has a Ph.D. in German Literature from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.

Gwen is the President and CEO of GME Enterprises, a management consulting company that specializes in providing risk management, operations management, strategic support, and housing finance advisory services to corporate, nonprofit and government clients. During her 25+-year tenure in the financial services industry, Gwen has served in many high-profile executive level leadership positions and has successfully implemented risk management platforms to drive effective management of significant risks at several Fortune 50 companies. She was most recently the Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for the Single-Family business at Fannie Mae. She provided national policy leadership to offer housing retention solutions through the Great Recession from 2007 to 2009. Jeneé Saffold is a Policy Attorney with Benefits Data Trust and a Pennsylvania licensed attorney. Prior to joining BDT, her work included solo practice litigation handling child welfare cases and tenant rights and policy attorney work with the Nebraska Department of Revenue. As BDT's Policy Attorney, Jeneé is a subject matter expert on benefits law and state benefit agency data sharing for targeted outreach to bridge enrollment gaps. Jeneé is passionate about learning and exploring innovative ways in which the law and policy can be used to advance and improve public benefits access. Jeneé graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 2010 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Marketing and Business Management, and graduated from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2013 with a J.D. and Business Transactional Law concentration. In her free time, Jeneé enjoys international travel, finding moments of quiet time to curl up with a good book and spending quality time with her family exploring, learning, and creating.

Julian Xie

Julian Xie is the Senior Health Innovation and Evaluation Manager at Benefits Data Trust. As part of the Healthcare Innovation team, Julian leads partnerships with healthcare organizations to conduct data-driven outreach and/or referrals to BDT's contact centers to get their low-income patient populations enrolled in public benefits to improve their health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. Julian's role also includes facilitating evaluation for BDT's Healthcare Innovation projects, increasing public benefits access programming in healthcare settings, and expanding cross-sectoral data-sharing to support focused outreach and higher quality social drivers of health programming evaluation. Julian completed a Master of Public Policy in 2020, where he was a Margolis Scholar in Health Policy and Management, and an MD in 2021, also from Duke University. His research in the field to date relates closely to his main interests, including food as medicine, sustainable food systems, and public food procurement. In 2017, he co-founded Root Causes, a Duke healthcare student organization dedicated to social drivers of health. In his time as President of Root Causes, Julian advocated for healthier hospital food environments, created community gardening programs, and launched the Fresh Produce Program, which home-delivers fresh produce to food-insecure patients referred by healthcare providers.

Prior to joining BDT, she served as the first female Vice President of Partnerships at Catchafire, a social good tech org that uses a network- based platform and SaaS approach to connect nonprofits with pro-bono volunteers, helping take it from working with 15 engaged funders to over 120. Her roots are in the social good and nonprofit sector, where she has served in fundraising leadership roles at internationally recognized NGOs like Pencils of Promise, UNICEF, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Red Cross, where she built powerful donor programs that engage and include individual givers, corporations, institutions, grassroots, and digital fundraising communities. She is a proud first-generation (Korean) American and first-generation college graduate (at the University of Virginia), wife of a Marine Corps Veteran, mother to two beautiful and kind boys, and a new Philadelphian.

Katherine has worked as a nonprofit fundraiser for more than 15 years, both in New York and Philadelphia. Prior to joining BDT in March 2014, Katherine spent 11 years at the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Philadelphia's public library system. As the Director of Institutional Giving, she led a team of skilled institutional fundraising professionals to raise millions each year from foundations, corporations, and government agencies for the Free Library's vast array of programs, services, and capital initiatives. She has also worked for the Opera Orchestra of New York and the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. Katherine earned her BS in Social Work from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, and MA in Museum Studies from New York University. A proud Philadelphian by birth, Katherine is ecstatic to be working for an organization headquartered in the iconic "Clothespin building" she adored as a child and where she first performed with her fourth-grade class choir. Lura Barber

Lura Barber is the Director of Advancement at Benefits Data Trust. She leads the strategy to cultivate new partnerships and opportunities in support of BDT's expansion into new geographies. Lura has nearly 15 years of experience developing and leading programs that increase access to benefits and address the social drivers of health. Prior to joining BDT in 2020, Lura was the Director of Hunger Initiatives at the National Council on Aging, where she led a national campaign to improve SNAP access for older adults through direct service and digital assistance. Lura began her career as a VISTA paralegal at Legal Aid Chicago, where she advocated for seniors in civil legal issues. She has served on the boards of Washington Improv Theater and United Legal Workers Local 2320 and is a professional performer and teacher of improvisational comedy. Lura has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Gender and Women's Studies from Grinnell College and a Master of Public Policy degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

Matt Arnold is the Director of Marketing of Benefits Data Trust (BDT). In this role he helps BDT reach key audiences through strategically planned media and experiences, and plans strategies to reach them using audience data insights. Matt's goal is to ensure that BDT's media and campaigns communicate to partners and funders the ways that the organization can meet their needs. Prior to working at BDT Matt led marketing and digital engagement at the National Endowment for Democracy as well as at a green economy tech startup. Matt has many years of experience in 360 and digital marketing at agencies like Ogilvy & Mather and Publicis, where he worked with many nonprofit clients. Prior to that he served as a higher education marketer for W. W. Norton & Co., one of the largest college education publishers in the US. Matt has a master's degree in Strategic Communications & Marketing from Columbia University and a bachelor's from the University of Rochester. He's an avid cyclist.

Mitchell Bloom

Mitchell Bloom is Senior Advancement Officer at Benefits Data Trust. In this role, Mitchell cultivates philanthropic investment in BDT's mission to transform the social safety net and ensure that people receive dignified, efficient access to public benefits. Mitchell joined BDT in 2019 after nearly a decade in Philadelphia's arts and culture sector, where he worked in a variety of capacities from grant writing for the Grammy Award-winning new music choir The Crossing to teaching playwriting in the School District of Philadelphia. Mitchell's work as a podcast producer has been recognized with numerous awards, including Comcast NBCUniversal's Project Innovation Award, the Arts + Business Council of Greater Philadelphia's PNC Arts Alive Award for Innovation, and Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly." Originally from a Christmas tree farm in Western Pennsylvania, Mitchell is a first-generation college student who moved to Philadelphia to attend Temple University, where he earned a BA in English. Morgan Galloway

Morgan Galloway, PhD, joined Benefits Data Trust in October 2023. As a Research Manager, she designs and implements research that informs BDT's work with partners and agencies as well as BDT's broader strategic framework. Her research runs along two primary paths: a mixed methods approach to evaluate and improve BDT's services and a community-centered approach to understanding the lived experiences of all who are eligible for public benefits. At the heart of her research philosophy is a commitment to learning from her research participants and using the right tools to answer the important questions. In addition to her expertise as a researcher, Morgan also brings her own experience with the public benefits system. Without access to SNAP, Medicaid, and federal financial aid, Morgan would never have found herself in the position to help influence benefits access for others. Outside of work, Morgan enjoys cooking, perfumery, lifting weights, dystopian fiction, and spending time with her partner, Rachel, and dog, Didi. Morgan earned her BA in Political Science from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington and has a PhD in Political Science from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

As Chief of Staff at Benefits Data Trust (BDT), Sang is charged with advancing organizational priorities, advising executives, and coaching departmental leaders. Previously, Sang served as the Senior Director of Development, a critical role leading the rapid growth of BDT's annual revenue from $14MM to nearly $30MM in two years. In that role, Sang led revenue strategy and execution, including creating donor programs, systematizing development operations, and building a high-performing team. Prior to joining BDT, Sang served as Chief Development Officer at LIFT Communities, a national nonprofit that empowers families to break the cycle of poverty, where he led the growth of annual revenue by more than 50%. For nine years prior to LIFT, Sang directed local fundraising efforts at City Year, a national education nonprofit organization, where he held various positions, including Managing Director of Development. Earlier, Stephen served as Chief Technology Officer of the National Aquarium in Baltimore and worked at United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, where he launched the first neighborhood Wi-Fi networks in the country. He holds an MPA from Harvard's Kennedy School, an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management, and a BS in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University. In his free time, Stephen enjoys traveling the country and the world with his wife and two children.
