It grows mainly in forests and mountains, especially in rocky areas and on oak trees in this region of the world, in a wild way. It can be found between 500 and 1800 meters above sea level. The calaguala is also found in the Peruvian Andes at more than 3,000 meters above sea level... The calaguala is mainly used for its medicinal functions especially in Central America, between Mexico and South America. It is the extract of the plant, also called calaguala, that is used therapeutically.
