I joined the Diwan lab as a research assistant in 2020. I got my bachelor degree of science in Wuhan university in China majoring in molecular biology and biochemistry. Here my duties focus on molecular cloning and protein purification from bacteria and insect cells. Besides lab work, I love doing sports, cooking and traveling.

David Rawnsley

I am currently a clinical fellow at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. I completed my medical school and graduate school training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. I completed my internal medicine residency and clinical cardiology fellowship training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis. My clinical interests are in general cardiology and echocardiography. My research interest is in understanding the role of the lysosome and autophagy in cardiac development, injury, and repair.

Haiyan Liu

Dr. Liu earned her MD. MS. Degrees in China. After finished her Post-Doc Training at University of Michigan Department of Internal Medicine, Dr. Liu joined Dr. Diwan's lab in 2011. Her works were focused on lysosome pathways on pancreatic beta cells. Currently Dr. Liu is a Research Specialist in Department of Neurology at WashU joining the Bateman Lab and Lucey Lab in September of 2018. Her current work focus on Amyloid beta measurement in human plasma and CSF.

John Murphy

I have been a scientist with a passion for genetics since June of 2000 when I started my predoctoral training at the University of South Carolina investigating tumorigenesis. During my postdoctoral training, I strengthened my ability and understanding of genetics through identification of new gene functions using forward genetic screens. I am currently a staff scientist in the Abhinav Diwan laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where my goal is to discover the genetic mechanisms of starvation and refeeding in C. elegans with the intention of applying this knowledge to mitigate damage caused by myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury in humans.

Kartik Mani

In addition to being a CHIP operator and endovascular interventional cardiologist at the St. Louis VA hospital, I am an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Washington University, School of Medicine. After completing medical school at the Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, I was enrolled in the medical scientist training pathway at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. This included 3 years of post doctoral work in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Kitsis - working on the proteomics of cell death. After a hiatus from academics, I recently reentered scientific pursuit as a member of the Diwan Lab and am focused on the role of protein aggregation in sarcomere and cardiac myocyte biology. When not pondering over biology, I am a passionate photographer, blogger, philosopher and classic car nut.

Layla Foroughi

I am a research assistant in the Diwan Lab. I am post-grad with a Bachelors of Arts in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Washington University in St. Louis. I began research as an undergraduate where I investigated protein pathways in cell morphology. Once I graduated in 2017, I joined the Diwan Lab. Here I assist in pursuing the role of protein aggregates in cardiac and sarcomeric biology. Besides doing lab work, I enjoy tending my garden and baking treats for the lab.

Minu Kumari

I joined Diwan lab as Postdoctoral Research Associate from April, 2020. My research work is mainly focused on regulation of lysosomal biogenesis program in obesity-induced diabetes, and I am also involved in exploring the effect of maternal obesity on cardiovascular health of offspring. I completed my Ph.D. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and I was working there in the field of inflammation biology in trauma patients. Apart from laboratory work, I love spending time with my family, traveling to new places and listening to songs.

Moydul Islam

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Biochemistry (Chemistry graduate program) and joined Diwan lab in January, 2019. Before coming to WashU in Fall-2018, I received an M.S. degree in Biological Sciences from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. I received my undergraduate degree from the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. My current research interest is focused on elucidating the roles of protein aggregation in Cardiomyopathy. Besides having a passionate interest in research, I enjoy traveling, photography, trying out new restaurants, reading fantasy novels and composing a few tunes in my guitar.

Since then, I completed medical school from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and am currently a General Surgery Specialist at Loyola University Medical Center Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
