James Coleman

James Coleman is a lifelong resident of South San Francisco, attending Ponderosa Elementary, Alta Loma Middle School, and South San Francisco High School. After graduating, James went on to Harvard University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology with a minor in Government. James has interned at Bayer Berkeley and worked at a neuroscience lab at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has also been an organizer involved with the Alliance for Climate Education, the Harvard Undergraduates for Environmental Justice, and Fossil Fuel Divest Harvard. Nancy Goodban

Nancy Goodban (she/her) was born in Oakland and has lived in Redwood City since 2006. She worked as an administrator, researcher and consultant in health and human services for 40 years, holding deputy director positions in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz county social services agencies and successfully leading community-wide initiatives involving a variety of stakeholders. After retirement, Nancy developed and led statewide Affordable Care Act training for county social service agencies. She helped to found the nonprofit Sacred Rok and chaired it for 10 years, helping foster youth and those in juvenile hall to experience the healing of nature at Yosemite National Park. Nancy has a Ph.D. in Social and Organizational Psychology from Harvard University, and has been a political activist/volunteer since her teens. Her interest in civilian oversight of the Sheriff stems from concerns about police violence against people of color including turning immigrants who have completed their sentences over to ICE. Paul Bocanegra

Paul Bocanegra (he/him) was condemned to life in prison without parole at the age of 17. Paul served twenty-five and a half years, more than twelve of those in solitary confinement. He was paroled under Senate Bill 9, which gave youth with life without parole sentences an opportunity to petition the court for a second sentencing hearing. Paul transitioned back into the community in September 2017 and discharged parole in 2021, obtaining agency in his life for the first time. Today, Paul is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, a Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Commissioner for San Mateo County, a personal mentor for transitioning community members, and an expert witness in criminal justice cases involving youth. Paul has testified at the State Capitol and helped to defeat legislation that threatened current reforms, has co-authored legislation in his county, and is a member of the Latin X Advisory Committee to Sen. Josh Becker. Paul co-founded ReEvolution to use his lens of lived experience to help ReEvolution provide meaningful support in prevention efforts, with an emphasis on youth, and person-centered reentry programs for all the transitioning community.
