Abraham Arnold

Abraham Arnold has been an associate with the firm since February of 2014. He represents children and adults in disability insurance benefits and supplemental security income cases at the hearing and appellate levels. Prior to becoming an associate, Mr. Arnold composed briefs appealing denials of disability at the federal district court level. In his personal life, Mr. Arnold volunteers in youth after school programs and serves as a teacher for the American Constitution Society's Constitution in the Classroom program, teaching low income students about the United States Constitution and the rights it provides. Barry A. Schultz

devotes his law practice to Social Security Disability matters, helping clients and their families obtain benefits and address problems related to benefits. He offers clients more than 30 years of practice experience, with more than 25 years of exclusive focus on Social Security Disability law. A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, Illinois, Barry has been licensed to practice law in Illinois since 1980. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit. Education University of Illinois College of Law, Champaign, Illinois Barry Schultz began representing Social Security claimants in 1986, after several years working in legal aid. If meritorious claims were denied, he would appeal them to the Federal District Court, and to the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit if necessary. He had great success appealing unfavorable Social Security determinations, and eventually focused his efforts on appealing cases to the Appeals Council and Federal Court. After over 40 years of practicing law, Barry retired in 2021.

Cody Marvin

Cody Marvin is the managing attorney with the firm. He graduated from the Evergreen State College and the University of San Francisco School of Law. He has been representing Social Security disability claimants since 2009, has argued several cases at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and has worked on hundreds of appeals in the Federal District Courts within the Seventh Circuit. He is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR). Cody serves on NOSSCR's Amicus Participation Committee, and has written amicus briefs in cases at the Supreme Court of the United States in support of the interests of Social Security claimants. Cody became the firm's managing attorney in 2018, and took over after Barry's retirement. Cody maintains the same approach - sticking with clients, even those with difficult and unusual cases, and making sure their voices are heard and claims are properly represented.

Crawford Ward

Crawford Ward is an associate attorney with the firm. He represents clients in disability insurance benefits and supplemental security income cases at the hearing and appellate levels. Before joining the firm, he wrote federal district court briefs appealing benefit denials. Crawford attended the University of Illinois and Depaul University College of Law where he helped build a public interest certificate program. He was a clerk in the HIV/AIDS program at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago and a Cudahy Fellow at the Cook County Law Office of the Public Defender and has been active in community-based assistance projects. Prior to law school, Crawford was a response manager with the American Red Cross Disaster Services program in Chicago, Atlanta, and Riverside County, California. James Robert Schiff

James Robert Schiff has been an attorney with the firm since June of 2010. He has represented hundreds of claimants at the initial stages through the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. At the Seventh Circuit, he argued and won the cases of Bjornson v. Astrue, 671 F.3d 640 (7th Cir. 2012), Allensworth v. Colvin, 814 F.3d 831 (7th Cir. 2016), and Ghiselli v. Colvin, 837 F.3d 771 (7th Cir. 2016), among others. Since 2017, he has managed the firm's client intake system and is responsible for reviewing new potential client cases, in addition to writing and editing legal briefs. Mr. Schiff is a Seventh Circuit representative to the National Association of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) Board. He has given presentations at NOSSCR conferences on children's disability claims and overpayment cases, and, at the Chicago Bar Association, on continuing disability reviews. Prior to working at the Law Offices of Barry Schultz, Mr. Schiff worked as an attorney with the employment & labor law section of the US Postal Service. During law school, he worked as a summer associate at Clark Hill, PLC in Detroit, Michigan, and as an intern in the labor department of the City of Chicago Department of Law. Outside of work, Mr. Schiff enjoys beach volleyball, board games, and reading. Julie Flanagan Coen

Julie Coen has been involved with public interest law since 1994. Julie graduated from the University of Notre Dame summa cum laude and then Duke University School of Law where she edited and wrote for the Duke Law Journal. She worked for the Social Security Administration's Office of the General Counsel for more than a decade, writing briefs and arguing in the district courts and the Courts of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Circuits. With an appellate win record of over 95 percent, she earned the Agency's National Excellence Award. She also wrote opinions, policy clarifications, and other Agency materials on numerous issues, including disability criteria, procedural requirements, and resource and income questions. Since beginning to represent Social Security claimants, Julie has worked on hundreds of federal court cases, including drafting briefs and presenting argument before the Seventh Circuit. These favorable cases for our clients include Stage v. Colvin, 812 F.3d 1121 (7th Cir. 2016), Gerstner v. Berryhill, 879 F.3d 257 (7th Cir. 2018), and DeCamp v. Steven W. Kidd

Steven W. Kidd has worked for Marvin & Associates, formerly the Law Offices of Barry A. Schultz, for over ten years, representing clients at all levels of the Social Security application and appellate process from initial disability applications through the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He has successfully represented hundreds of clients before the Social Security Administration, as well as written hundreds of successful briefs across every district court in the Seventh Circuit, including the Court of Appeals itself. Mr. Kidd has also successfully represented numerous clients in oral arguments in several district courts. Mr. Kidd attended Loyola University, from which he graduated Summa Cum Laude, and Loyola University School of Law. He received two CALI awards of excellence for legal writing and served as an editor on the Loyola Consumer Law Review. Mr. Kidd specializes in writing legal briefs and representing clients in federal court.
