MODELICS - Key Persons

Damian Marek

Damian Marek is a Ph. D. student working on a high-performance electromagnetic solver for 3D integrated circuits. He received his B. Eng. and M. Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in 2012 and 2014 respectively. In 2014, he joined Optiwave Systems where his most notable achievement was developing a finite element solver for electromagnetic waveguiding problems. His interest in computational electromagnetics led him to return to academia and join the Modelics group in 2018. Damian always makes time to enjoy his favorite hobbies: soccer, hiking and canoeing.

Fadime Bekmambetova

I am a 3rd year Engineering Science student (ECE option), going into 4th year. I have enjoyed all the electromagnetism courses in my program and I had an honor to join Professor Triverio's group for this summer. In my spare time I enjoy drawing, reading and jogging.

Jasper Hatton

Jasper received his B.A.Sc. degree in Engineering Science (Electrical and Computer Engineering option) from the University of Toronto in May 2023. During his bachelor's he took a Professional Experience Year (PEY) at AMD, where he worked on performance validation for HPC/AI accelerators. After graduating, he was pleased to join Modelics as a master's student to pursue his interest in computational electromagnetism. Jasper's research focuses on computational techniques for robust full-wave solvability of 3D packaging and integrated circuit problems. Outside of school he may be found on the badminton court or at the climbing gym.

Nhien Tran-Nguyen

Nhien Tran-Nguyen received her B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science in 2019 at the University of Toronto with a major in Biomedical Systems Engineering. Her research focuses on the application of biomedical engineering to clinical settings. Currently, she is investigating the applications of computational fluid dynamics to coronary artery bypass graft surgeries. Outside of her research, she is involved with the Discovery program in IBBME to engage young adults seeking a career in STEM. On the weekends, she enjoys exploring the local food scene in Toronto.

Pasquale Cambareri

Pasquale Cambareri received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in May 2023. In 2022, he spent four months as a visiting Ph.D. student at the Center for Advanced Power Systems of Florida State University. In November 2023, he joined the University of Toronto as a Postdoctoral Fellow, under the supervision of Profs. P. Triverio and S. Hum. His research interests span over the development of analytical, circuital, and computational models of electromagnetic systems, at both low and high frequencies. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, taking long walks, and travelling.

Piero Triverio

Job Titles:
  • Professor, Canada Research Chair in Computational Electromagnetism

Qinghao Zhang

Qinghao Zhang received his B.Sc. in Honor Physics and computing option from University of Waterloo and his B.Sc in Honor Physics from Shandong Normal University in 2021. It was his honor to join the Modelics group and he is interested in computational electromagnetism. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball.

Ruoyi Xie

Ruoyi Xie is a fourth-year Engineering Science student majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Ruoyi joined the Modelics group to work on the layout engine in the summer of 2022. She has returned to Modelics to further improve the performance and efficiency of the layout engine. In her spare time, she enjoys trying cuisine from different cultures and relishes the process of making, tasting, and sharing these dishes with her family and friends.

Yongzhong Li

Yongzhong Li received his B.S. degree at the Beihang University in 2020 with a major in Electronic and Information Engineering. His research focuses on numerical modeling for multiscale and multiphysics problems, wave functional material and machine learning. When he is not doing research, you can find him hiking, swimming, reading poems and history.
