From the beginning of my teaching career I have sought to find ways to help students experience the thrill of learning. There is an excitement that comes to each person as they truly understand the world around them. So from the start I have been looknig for effective ways to engage students in thinking and understanding their world. I have tried to implement so many different strategies and pedagogies, that it is hard to keep track of them all... In my efforts to find the things that really do work to bring students to their own understanding of the world, I sometimes felt that I was forging something completely new. A few years ago I discovered Concept Based Curriculum and Instruction. This approach finally gave names and organization to the methods I was cobbling together for my entire career.
