WaterWorks is a one of a kind environmental education center. We have multiple learning exhibits to teach children about the importance of wetland systems and sustainable technologies. Our facility is run entirely off of solar power. We have green roofs that insulate the building, reduce runoff and provide extra space to grow edible plants like strawberries. Our rainwater collection systems reduce the need for municipal water supply. Our worm composting area reduces our paper waste. Porous pavers in the parking lot reduce runoff into nearby streams. Native species of minnows control mosquitoes and reduce the need for pesticides... The WaterWorks Center for Environmental Education was founded by the Alabama's Mountains, Rivers, and Valleys Resource Conservation and Development Council (AMRV RC&D) in 2010.
