The Auto API specification is an open source vehicle data model built for the purpose of providing a consistent data protocol for communication between cars and external 3rd party services. The full introduction to the protocol and the source code can be found on GitHub... It should be thought of as one device setting the data in the other one. What the receiving device then does with this data is up to the client / vehicle to decide.
