BELMONT FOOD PANTRY - Key Persons

Jim Murphy

Job Titles:
  • Fire Chief
Fire Chief Jim Murphy of the Belmont Fire Department offered a section of the basement in the Waverley Fire Station to house the pantry. The space was previously used by the Boy and Explorer Scouts, and the troop volunteered to clean and paint the room in preparation for the pantry. An ad hoc committee consisting of representatives from the Council on Aging, the Religious Council, the business community, the Fire Chief, and three Belmont residents assembled. The committee developed guidelines and began the process of opening the pantry. With the help of the local churches and a small "startup" grant from Project Bread, the Belmont Food Pantry opened its doors on Saturday, December 5, 1992.
