Gareth has a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Aerospace Engineering specialising in avionic systems from the University of Sheffield. Gareth joined Markel Tax in late 2018 as an Associate R&D Consultant, working to assist the wider team with all aspects of the claim process, before working as an R&D Tax Consultant for four years. During this time he has built a diverse client base, with clients across several engineering disciplines (aerospace, chemical, civil engineering), software development and agriculture. Gareth is also a key part of the company's Patent Box Tax Relief and Capital Allowances Teams.
Since September 2022 Gareth has worked as a Senior R&D Tax Consultant, assisting with the training of junior staff members, and is currently studying for his ATT qualifications.

Gaynor joined Markel Tax as a VAT Consultant in January 2021. Having qualified as a UK solicitor, she started her VAT career with Arthur Andersen and subsequently worked in the VAT litigation teams at Ernst & Young, Deloitte and the US law firm, Dorsey & Whitney, where she advised clients on all aspects of litigation of VAT appeals (including judicial review) from tribunal through to the higher courts. Following an extensive career break, Gaynor returned to the indirect tax sphere and now enjoys a new focus on VAT consultancy providing a comprehensive service to a wide variety of clients.

Emma joined Markel UK in 2022 and brings with her 30 years commercial insurance experience. She has worked in a number of technical and senior sales roles for both insurance brokers, FCA compliance consultants and insurance companies, and has a number of years' experience working within the professional services sector. She is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, the Institute of Leadership and Management, and a qualified coach through Cambridge University.
Markel UK is a specialist insurer serving regional brokers and UK SMEs. We have developed one of the UK's first integrated insurance, tax and legal services aimed at SMEs.

Richard joined Markel in 2010 and is a member of the UK Executive team. Day to day Richard is responsible for the people, policy and processes of the UK's claims function and its portfolios of claims. Richard is also Managing Partner of Markel's law firm, Markel Law.
Richard is a qualified solicitor and holds the ACII designation. Richard sits on the CII's advisory board for their Society of Claims Professionals as well as the CII's General Insurance Learning advisory panel.
