ACTION FOR WATER EQUITY

We focus our action for water equity in partnerships with colonias - or small, unincorporated settlements - on the US-Mexico border. There are approximately 2000 U.S. colonias in Texas, 150 in New Mexico, 85 in Arizona, and 15 in California. Research exploring water insecurity in the southwest U.S. shows colonias often depend on informal water systems. In this project, we take a justice-oriented, pro-poor, community-based participatory approach to address water insecurity in colonias. Using innovations in social, cyber, and physical infrastructure, we aim to amplify the impact of already-existing informal systems.
