MARIN NARUSE

Marin Naruse was born in Hyogo prefecture and moved to Amami Island at the age of four. She began learning shimauta and sanshin in the third grade of elementary school. As a shimauta artist, she has won multiple awards at competitions and collaborated with various artists including jazz pianists and orchestra... In 2023, she conducted a shimauta workshop at the 46th ICTM World Conference held in Lisbon, Portugal. Acclaimed for her achievements,she has been chosen as a grantee of the Asian Cultural Council (for July-December 2023 term) and currently conducting research in New York City, focusing on the preservation of ethnic music and its application to shimauta. After the fellowship, she will go back to Japan to finish her bachelor's degree at Keio University where she has received the university's 2023 President's Encouragement Award... ・Won the second place in the preliminary round of the National Minyo-Minbu Amami Union Tournament.
