I started my career in talent development when I was a client service representative, by creating "cheat sheets" to help my teammates learn a new software for which no training was being provided. That simple show of initiative helped me to move into a role as a technical trainer where I eventually moved into a leadership role. What I quickly learned during that time was that training was just a small piece of an overarching talent management process...
Most talent management models illustrate a cycle that begins with the recruiting and hiring of talent all the way through feedback and performance reviews. But I see more in that cycle. In past roles, I've created diversity programs, launched and managed the engagement survey process, implemented performance management systems, supported succession planning and much more.
