Charlotte Kanka

As Director of Client Services, Charlotte manages a team of professionals who are responsible for the planning and implementation of the WFG retirement plan client service model. Her primary responsibility is striving to keep clients on track with their annual service plan. The client service model starts with the onboarding of new clients and encompasses establishing plan goals and schedule for regular plan reviews and employee education programs including onsite visits and webinars. The WFG client service model is focused on helping participants proactively plan for their retirement. In addition, Charlotte is responsible for managing WFG's human resources, financial reporting systems, payroll, and the overall general management of the office. Charlotte lives in Gaithersburg, MD with her husband Joe. They have four children. She is an avid reader and soccer fan who loves to travel abroad.

Colin Clark - SVP

Colin is a Senior Vice President of Washington Financial Group, focusing on corporate and non-profit retirement plans. He has extensive experience managing assets for individuals, corporations, and pension plans including establishing and consulting on 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, profit sharing, cash balance and executive benefit plans. Colin's day to day responsibilities include working with plan trustees on addressing their fiduciary responsibilities and working with individuals on managing their retirement accounts. Colin is a proud member of the team at Washington Financial Group that was named a 2021 PLANADVISER Top 100 Retirement Plan Advisor, a 2021 NAPA Top DC Advisor Team as well as the 2017 PLANSPONSOR Retirement Plan Adviser Small Team of the Year. Curt Gupton

Curt is a member of the Financial Planning team at Washington Financial Group, working under the advisors to assist in any way possible. Curt is working on obtaining his CFP, and is currently in the process of developing financial plans specifically for the Millennial generation, including clients' children. As the technology specialist in the Financial Planning department, Curt creates personalized wealth management sites for each client, keeps them updated with the ever-changing events in life, and maps out various scenarios to give clients the confidence for retirement. Curt has always been an active part of the athletic community from playing in the Alexandria basketball league to being an assistant coach for his brother's travel basketball and baseball teams. He is (unfortunately) a die-hard DC sports fan and never misses watching a Georgia football game on TV or in person.

Derek Coburn - EVP

Derek is an Executive Vice President of Washington Financial Group, where his clients most often retain him as their Personal CFO. In this role, Derek leads his team at WFG to help coordinate all aspects of his clients' financial lives. Drawing on almost two decades of experience as a financial advisor, Derek helps enable his clients with the financial confidence they need to focus their time and energy on what is truly important to them. His typical client is a professional, entrepreneur or business owner who shares in one or more of Derek's passions that include golf, wine, sporting events and live music. He is a strong believer in the power of networking and seeks to help his clients connect with and establish meaningful contacts that may assist them in furthering their business or personal goals. Derek and his wife Melanie live in Washington, D.C. with their sons Dexter and Caleb and dog Bodie.

Eileen Phelps

Eileen has been a key member of the WFG client service team since 2016 supporting wealth management and retirement services. Prior to joining WFG she supported numerous military and government agencies in both financial and project management over the span of 25 years. Eileen current lives in Vienna, VA, enjoys traveling, planning events and spending time with her three grown children and two baby grands.

Elena Peerson

Elena is a multilingual educational specialist with a demonstrated track record working in the financial services industry. She passionately assists clients of all backgrounds to help them seek to understand their financial opportunities, secure their future, and protect their loved ones. As Vice President, Financial Wellness and Engagement, Elena is responsible for managing relationships with our retirement plan participants and delivering customized financial planning and retirement educational programs.

Jay Sanford

Jay is WFG's Director of Investment Strategy, responsible for guiding the firm's investment strategies and client strategies. Jay leads a team of professionals dedicated to monitoring investments and ensuring a high level of proactive service for all clients. WFG's values and commitment to investment excellence further enhances our efforts to identify the most appropriate vehicles to promote clients' long-term goals, and the service clients receive every day. Jay has been a guest lecturer at area universities and sits on investment committee boards for non-profit organizations throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Jay lives in Washington, DC and enjoys reading, playing golf, soccer, tennis and attending Washington Nationals games. He is a lifelong Packers fan and Chelsea soccer fan.

Jeff Hamblen - EVP

Jeff Pincus

As WFG's Chief Utility Player, Jeff wears a number of important hats including insurance specialist, marketing management, sales support, compliance, technology utilization, training and education. In the insurance arena, Jeff serves as the WFG insurance specialist in the client planning process. He also oversees the overall branding guidelines and content development of WFG's website, marketing collateral, presentations, newsletters, emails, infographics and proposals. Jeff manages WFG's social media platforms and is responsible for both video and photo coverage of events. Jeff also supports the delivery of the WFG client service model encompassing the development of WFG's vast array of plan sponsor and participant training and education materials. Jeff lives in Brunswick, MD and enjoys spending time with his wife Gretchen, sons Ripken and Hobbs, hiking, petting every dog he sees, music, baseball (let's go O's!), fantasy football and going to Walt Disney World as often as possible.

Joe DeNoyior - President

Joe is the President of Washington Financial Group, where he leads WFG's retirement plan group which services over 150 qualified plans. Since 1990, he has maintained a commitment to building an organization centered on client needs that seeks to provide unsurpassed service and independent advice for professionals, entrepreneurs, businesses and their employees. Joe is the President of the American Retirement Association as well as the Past President of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA). He was recently named to the 2020 Financial Times Top 401 Retirement Plan Advisors list. Fun Fact: Joe has been on a lifelong quest to find the perfect slice of pizza. Personal Information: Joe, his wife Stacy and son Anthony live in Vienna, Virginia. He is active in the hockey community as both a coach and a player.

Katie Thornton

Katie joined WFG in June of 2018 as Client Services Associate within the wealth management group. A graduate of Longwood University with a concentration in finance, Katie is no stranger to WFG having previously excelled in our internship program in 2017. Her responsibilities include assisting in handling client solutions and preparing for investment review meetings including research and report preparation. Katie has plans to take the Series 7 and Series 66 license exams with an interest in financial planning. While a student at Longwood University, Katie was a member of the Lancer Student Investment Fund. She is a data driven professional who often says that "numbers don't lie."

Mark Jensen - VP

Mark is a member of WFG's wealth management planning team, working with advisors and clients to create and update financial plans. Mark is also part of WFG's client service team, working with clients including several attorneys to advise and support them on investment and insurance matters. The ultimate team player, Mark always goes the extra mile, whether on something as complex as coordinating a client's entire financial picture or something as simple as helping a client aggregate their financial accounts. Mark enjoys spending his free time playing basketball, baseball and football with his son's Matthew and Andrew. He also helps coach his son's basketball and baseball teams and really enjoys seeing how quickly the kids develop with the correct practice habits. Mark also enjoys family beach trips to Ocean City, MD and an occasional trip to Disney World.

Melissa (Mel) Voight - VP

Melissa (Mel) Voight is a Vice President at Washington Financial Group who brings more than 20 years of industry experience in comprehensive financial planning, wealth accumulation and wealth management strategies. She has helped many people pursue their retirement goals of living well, family legacies and charitable giving. She believes in fostering relationships with clients and will often assign homework after meetings because she believes your planning will be stronger when you understand what you have and why. Mel graduated from Dowling College with a BBA in Management and Leadership. She has a life-long commitment to education about finance. She is the Vice Chair of the McLean Estate Planning Council, an organization committed to the continuing education of attorney's, financial advisors and CPA's. Mel lives in Arlington and is an avid world traveler and foodie with a passion for helping others.

For over 30 years, he has developed a specialty in the retirement planning industry with both privately held and publicly traded businesses. In addition to working with 401(k) plans and clients, Rick is a regular panel moderator for The Plan Sponsor University (TPSU) educational programs in the Washington, DC Metro area. Rick is also the Past President of the Laurel Lions Club and Past President of the Columbia Rotary Club.
