Adam joined the firm in August 2021 as an Audit & Accounts trainee and he is studying towards his AAT qualification. He joined from Wyke Sixth Form College where he studied Accounting, Business and Geography.
Outside of work, Adam is a keen football fan following Hull city. He also enjoys watching cricket and American football.
Alex works as part of the Corporate Finance team within the firm. He joined the firm in 2011, training and qualifying in the Audit and Accounts department before moving to the Corporate Finance department in 2016.
Alex has experience in providing assistance on the acquisitions and sales of companies. He also has experience in preparing forecast models and assisting on litigation work.
Outside of work, Alex has a keen interest in keeping fit playing a variety of sports and the gym, he can usually be found on the golf course. His other interests include attending gigs and music festivals and travelling.
Alex is Commercial Manager at Smailes Goldie Group. He has a wealth of experience in IT, process improvement, project management and strategy planning. Alex is involved with marketing, continued improvement and project work for the firm.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, cycling and walking. Alex also enjoys watching most sporting events.
I joined the firm in 2021 as an audit and accounts trainee.
I am currently studying towards achieving the AAT qualification. My day to day role includes assisting the audit team with audit related tasks, including audit testing. This sometimes involves travelling to client sites with other members of the audit team, allowing us to access the relevant client information and documents.
Outside of work I enjoy playing football for my local team and watching all types of sport on TV. I am also a keen supporter of Hull FC and West Ham and enjoy attending regular matches.

Ben previously trained and qualified with Smailes Goldie Group before relocating to London for further life and work experience.
Whilst in London, Ben worked in the tax advisory team of a top 20 UK national firm of tax advisors and accountants. In this role, Ben focused on capital taxes, the UK taxation of international clients and their associated offshore structures, employee share schemes and also investor tax reliefs for start-up companies raising private equity.
Ben then moved to the London headquarters of a top 10 international firm of tax advisors and accountants to join their international private wealth team, where he focused purely on capital taxes and the UK taxation of international clients and their associated offshore structures.
In his new role at Smailes Goldie Group, Ben focuses on UK capital taxes, trusts, landed estates and the UK taxation of international clients.
Ben is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (‘STEP'). Ben also holds the STEP advanced certificate for the UK taxation of international clients.
Having previously trained and qualified at Smailes Goldie Group, Billy subsequently spent two years working in the audit and assurance department of a Big Four firm before returning to Smailes Goldie in 2016 and becoming a partner in 2022.
With a particular focus on supporting his clients with valuable accounting and taxation advice, Billy specialises in delivering audit and assurance services to growing companies, owner-managed businesses and corporate groups.
With experience across a range of sectors including logistics, manufacturing and property, Billy is passionate about working closely with his clients to deliver pragmatic, high quality solutions.
Away from the office, Billy is a keen watcher and participant of many sports having played everything from football to ice hockey growing up, but these days can usually be found on the golf course or cricket pitch.
Charlotte is a Senior Agricultural Manager who joined the firm in 2001, after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with another local practice.
She has over 25 years' experience in looking after agricultural clients, concentrating on family run businesses of various sizes. Her clients range from arable farms, to livestock and various diversifications including renewables. She is based out in Holderness but has clients from Lincolnshire to North Yorkshire.
She has over 25 years' experience dealing with clients in the agricultural sector. Her portfolio consists mainly farming partnerships and small companies within this sector and the various related diversifications.
She is a keen horse rider and practices natural horsemanship. Charlotte and her husband keep bees and geese. Charlotte is also an animal lover and enjoys walking her dogs and cats.
Courtney joined the firm in 2017 as a Personal Tax Assistant. Her daily responsibilities include the preparation of self-assessment tax returns and advising clients of their tax liabilities. She is studying toward the Association of Taxation Technician's qualification and aims to be a personal tax adviser. Courtney specialises in personal tax and manages a portfolio of around 250 clients working in a whole range of sectors.
Outside of work Courtney volunteers at a local dance school where she coaches children in many varieties of dance styles. She also enjoys socialising with friends and family and overseas travel. Recent trips include Thailand and Eastern Europe.
Dan joined the firm in 2020 and is currently studying towards the ATT professional qualification. His day to day role consists of managing a portfolio of personal tax clients preparing their Self-Assessment tax returns and dealing with their general tax queries.
Outside of work Dan enjoys socialising with friends and family. He is also a big rugby league, football and formula one fan and loves to watch matches/races every weekend.
David joined Smailes Goldie in December 2016 having spent the previous 10 years working with a mid-tier firm. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA) and specialises in personal and employment taxes.
David specialises in the taxation of individuals and currently manages a portfolio that comprises a number of high net worth individuals and those with more complex tax affairs. He also takes a keen interest in employment taxes and regularly advises on issues concerning PAYE and NIC.
He works with a range of clients including owner managed businesses, sole traders, non-UK resident individuals, agricultural workers and landlords. Tax planning is a key part of David's ethos and, by taking a holistic approach to his clients' affairs, he seeks to ensure that tax is paid as efficiently as possible.
Away from the office, David is a proud father to daughter Willow, born 2017, and son Teddy, born 2019, and in those rare moments of free time he enjoys football, music and perhaps even some sleep if he's lucky.
David joined Smailes Goldie in March 2016. He has many years' experience in practice in Big 4 and Top 10 firms and a couple of not so large firms. He also has experience in industry.
During his career, he has worked on and with large multinational businesses in a variety of sectors as well as dealing with the particular issues and opportunities relating to Owner Managed Businesses, dealing with their corporation taxes and related matters. His broad experience means that he has a skill set which includes research and development tax reliefs, corporate restructurings and reorganisations, international corporate tax issues, resolving HMRC enquiries and other tax risk management issues, and tax efficient capital raising for young companies.
He has also gained exposure to other taxes such as VAT, SDLT and taxes affecting the extractive industry. David is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Ellie joined the firm in 2020 as an Audit & Accounts trainee. Her day to day role includes assisting the audit team with audit related tasks, including audit testing. As part of her role, she often travels to client sites with other members of the audit team to carry out the tasks she is set. This gives Ellie the chance to gain further experience of the clients we work with and how each audit varies.
Ellie is currently studying towards the ICAEW ACA qualification.
Outside of work Ellie enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also loves to cook and is often trying to perfect a dish. Ellie enjoys travelling and is excited to visit and see more places across the globe. Furthermore, Ellie is a complete animal lover and always has time to care for her beloved pets.
Emily joined the firm in November 2020 as a Trainee within the Audit team. On a day to day basis, her role consists of completing Audit testing for various clients and working with managers to ensure this is done to a high standard. She is currently studying towards her AAT Level 3 Assistant Accountant qualification and hopes to continue her studies to eventually pass at ACA level.
Outside of work Emily enjoys all things "Musical Theatre" which includes watching shows and performing in them. Emily has performed at Hull Truck Theatre and Hull New Theatre several times in roles such as Nancy in Oliver and Fantine in Les Mis érables. She is also a very keen traveller whose ambition is to see every country she possibly can and meet people from all over the world.
Gemma joined the firm in 2019 as a Trainee Accountant and works primarily on audits and accounts. She is currently studying towards achieving the ACA qualification.
In her spare time, Gemma enjoys socialising with friends and family. She has a passion for rock climbing, running and finding ways to make decorating her home extremely difficult.
George joined the firm in 2019 as an Audit & Accounts Trainee and is studying towards the ACA qualification alongside his role; he hopes to be qualified by 2022.
Having studied Business Management in Manchester and completing a work placement in London as a finance intern for Disney, George is proud to be now practicing in his beloved hometown of Hull after four years away from the city.
Outside of work, sport takes centre stage. He plays football for Hedon Rangers in the Humber Premier League on a Saturday and is a keen Liverpool fan. George also likes to think he is a competent golfer.

Harry joined the firm in July 2019 as a Tax Trainee. He is currently studying towards the joint ACA and CTA qualification which will see him trained in both Tax and Audit. Currently Harry specialises in personal tax and looks after a portfolio of 190 clients ranging from agricultural workers to owner-managed businesses.
Outside of work Harry enjoys playing football for his local team and enjoys playing other sports such as golf and cricket.

Helen works as an assistant manager in the Agricultural and Landed Estates Team. Helen holds the FCCA and MAAT accountancy qualifications.
Helen joined Smailes Goldie Group from school and qualified in 2010 before joining the Agricultural and Landed Estates Team in 2017. Helen works with a range of agricultural businesses, with a specialism in trust accounts and taxation matters for trusts of varying size.
Away from work, Helen enjoys walking, travelling and baking.
Jake joined the firm in August 2020 as an Audit & Accounts trainee and is studying towards the ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) qualification alongside his role. Jake finished sixth form college earlier that year where he attained A-levels in Maths, Business and Economics.
Outside of work, Jake is a keen golfer and has represented the local county junior team in earlier years.
Jasmine joined Smailes Goldie in 2020 after completing her A-levels in Maths, Biology, and Sociology at Driffield Sixth Form. She works within the agriculture department and her interest within the agricultural sector stems from a family background in farming.
Jasmine is currently studying towards her AAT qualification.
In her free time Jasmine loves spending time with friends and family and is a very sociable person. She also enjoys baking and is a keen viewer of the Great British Bake Off.
