The "BORG" in the last three Star Trek series (Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and Voyager) constituted a high-tech, collectivist society intolerant of dissent, individualism, and liberty-- i.e., a totalitarian ideology. In Voyager, the character "Seven of Nine" (or "7 of 9") was a person who, after being rescued from the BORG, struggled to recover from the lingering effects of her having been "assimilated" into, and indoctrinated by, the BORG. Her struggle required continuingly vigilant and determined efforts to re-attain what she had once had: individualism, free-will and liberty... The 9-11-2001 attack on America by fanatic followers of a totalitarian version of Islam yielded a unification of Americans on 9-12-2001 against totalitarian fanaticism. Thus, references to a "9-12" state of mind came to symbolize such unification against totalitarianism.
