At the Food Proteins and Bioproducts Lab (FPBL) at the University of Manitoba, we are conducting fundamental and applied research aimed at integrating material science and nanotechnology approaches to adapt protein for nutrition, nanodelivery applications, developing novel protein ingredients and biomaterials from low-value crops and agricultural byproducts. We are also exploring the novel protein extraction and processing technologies and understanding the effect of novel food processing technologies on protein/other food components at the molecular level. Exploring renewable polymer-based, especially protein-based biomaterials for food packaging and biomedical applications and using protein processing byproducts for value-added applications are other areas of interest in FPBL.
