KANAM WOMEN

Kanam Women Initiative was established in 2016 in Turkana by group of women who were victims of gender based violence. The aim of establishing this group was to create a platform whereby victims of gender based violence would meet to share their experience as well as support each other. A majority of people living here are drop-outs of the nomadic pastoralist life style. They are victims or survivors of either a drought or major cattle raids. The ward is the most populated in Turkana, and has a population of approximately 300,000 people.Young people and women constitute over 80% of the population.
