Alexi Charalambides - CEO, Founder

Alexi leads FDA-focused business and product development. This involves managing clinical trials and engagements with military units, as well as leading technical efforts including mechanical, electrical, and software design. Prior to co-founding Lifeware Labs, Alexi was a postdoctoral fellow in the Soft Machines Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, where he developed novel materials and manufacturing methods for stretchable electronics. Alexi received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park, and MS and BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Brian Stancil - Chairman, Founder

​Brian's broad interests include research & development, contracts, and strategic partnership formation. He is also engaged with software development, real-time signal processing, and data-driven diagnostics. Prior to co-founding Lifeware Labs, Brian was Director of Robotic Systems at Neya Systems, where he developed autonomous capability for a wide range of unmanned air and ground vehicles from man-transportable systems to large multiple-ton platforms. Brian holds an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in Computer Science from Virginia Tech.

Carmel Majidi - Founder

Carmel guides innovations in materials engineering and assists in fundraising and business strategy. He also has an appointment as an Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, where he directs the Soft Machines Lab. Carmel is an expert in soft materials engineering for applications in wearable computing and soft robotics. Carmel has received career awards from DARPA, Navy, Air Force, and NASA and his research has lead to over 80 peer-reviewed technical publications and 6 issued patents. He received his PhD and MS in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley and a BS in Civil Engineering from Cornell.

Philip LeDuc - CFO, Founder

​Phil guides efforts in clinical translation and assists with forming partnerships within the medical industry. He is also the William J. Brown Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Computational Biology, Biological Sciences, and Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Phil has decades of expertise in cell mechanics, micro- and nano-technology, tissue engineering, and interfacing medicine and technology. In particular, he has worked closely with numerous clinicians in the domains of spine, sleep apnea, and electrophysiology.
