Andrea Williams

Andrea is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney who works for both local and overseas clients to draft and prosecute biotechnology patent applications worldwide. She has significant experience in drafting and prosecuting applications covering new plant traits, transgenic and genome edited organisms. She also has wide-ranging experience in drafting and prosecuting applications for large molecule technologies. In particular, her practice covers gene therapies, including modified vectors for delivery, as well as a range of antibodies and ADCs for therapy and as diagnostics for cancer, autoimmune and neurodegenerative disorders. Andrea has considerable experience in contentious matters as well as in providing FTO, due diligence and validity opinions in the biotechnology field. She has also advised on plant breeders' rights and has presented at the Plant Variety Protection Conference. Andrea's first degree was from the University of Warwick where she gained a First class honours degree in Biology. She completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge where she investigated the role of protein clearance pathways in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. Andrea also has an MSc in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.

Andrew Docherty

Andrew specialises in the field of engineering, with extensive experience in technologies relating to the oil and gas industry, advising a myriad of clients across multiple jurisdictions on all aspects of IP, from protection through to enforcement and strategic management of third party IP risks. In view of Andrew's significant experience in the oil and gas sector he has led the opening and development of the Aberdeen office of Marks & Clerk. In addition to his expertise in oil and gas technologies, Andrew has vast experience in many other engineering disciplines, including renewables, medical devices, gas turbine systems and the aerospace industry. He regularly represents clients before the Opposition Division and Appeal Boards of the European Patent Office, and also has significant experience in multi-jurisdictional due diligence, including validity and freedom to operate investigations. Andrew was born and educated in Scotland, obtaining a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Andrew has been recognised as a leading patent practitioner in a number of publications, with particular recognition for his experience in the oil and gas sector. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, he was listed as an ‘IP Star' by Managing Intellectual Property, and described as "capable and represents his clients well". Angus Fairbairn

Angus is a patent attorney specialising in the pharmaceutical area but also has extensive experience in a range of other technical fields including bleach detergents, polymer chemistry, ceramics, battery technology, biotechnology, and food processing. In addition to drafting and prosecuting patent applications worldwide, he represents clients in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. He has also filed a number of Supplementary Protection Certificates, as well as providing clients with advice on searching and filing strategies, and opinions on patent infringement and validity. Angus graduated from Cambridge University with an honours degree in Natural Sciences (Biochem). He qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 1995 in private practice, before joining Marks & Clerk in 1997. Following 20 years as a Partner, Angus moved to his current role in August 2023. Anna Morrish

Anna Morrish is an intellectual property lawyer based in the Marks & Clerk Toronto office and a member of the Litigation group. Her practice focuses on contentious intellectual property matters, particularly in the areas of trademarks, copyright and confidential information. While in law school Anna was an active oral advocacy competitor. In her first year, Anna and her teammate placed third at the Canadian Client Consultation Competition in Edmonton. In her second year, Anna was a member of Osgoode's International Criminal Court team, which competed in The Hague and at which she received a personal speaking award. In her final year, Anna was lead counsel of Osgoode's Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot team, where her team placed second overall. Since graduation, Anna has kept a pulse on the mooting scene through coaching teams as they prepare for the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot. Before joining us in 2023, Anna worked in the Vancouver office of a global law firm. Prior to attending law school, Anna worked as a Registered Nurse in the neurological intensive care unit at a downtown Toronto hospital.

Anni Wang

Anni graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Life Sciences, specializing in biomedical sciences. She has around five years of research experience in neuroscience, pharmacology and microbiology. Her final year project was on the characterisation of NG2 cells during brain inflammation. After graduation, she stayed on at NUS to work on neuropeptide expression levels in postherpetic neuralgia. Prior to joining Marks & Clerk, she was a product specialist with a scientific equipment distributor, specializing in equipment for research institutes, veterinary clinics, hospitals, and pharmaceutical laboratories. Anni completed the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law (GCIP) programme jointly conducted by the IP Academy and NUS. She has also obtained a Master's degree in Intellectual Property Management from NUS, in which she learnt about business models, marketing strategies, IP strategies, patent landscape and valuation.
