For more than 20 years, insurance companies have called on Alan for his counsel and representation in coverage litigation. He successfully has resolved countless coverage matters, ranging from coverage opinions aimed at avoiding litigation to high-profile litigation involving hundreds of millions of dollars.

Alan frequently speaks on emerging insurance issues at insurance companies and other organizations, including the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), Mealey's Insurance, and the Practising Law Institute. He also writes articles on insurance, including as a regular contributor of coverage updates to the Defense Research Institute and the NYSBA, and he is the author of the firm's monthly New York Insurance Coverage Law Update.
In addition, Alan serves as the vice chair of the Insurance Coverage Committee of the Torts, Insurance, and Compensation Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and as chair of the Insurance Section of the Nassau County Bar Association.

Alan has represented insurance companies in coverage matters for more than 30 years, successfully resolving more than 100 major claims involving the environment, energy, policyholder-owned insurers, and other complex issues. He also writes insurance policies.
Alan frequently speaks on insurance coverage for the American Bar Association (ABA), the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), and other leading professional and insurance industry organizations. He co-chaired the FDCC's 2017 Insurance Industry Institute. He has also advised, published, and lectured on the emerging insurance coverage issues concerning cyber liability.
Alan is a leader in the world of insurance coverage law. He is the past chair of the ABA's Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee and has held many other ABA leadership positions. He is past chair of the Litigation Committee of the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel. He is also a member of the American Law Institute.
In addition, Alan is a member of the FDCC, where he is also on the Board of Directors. He has served twice as FDCC's Insurance Coverage Section Chair. In 2018, he received the FDCC's John Alan Appleman Award recognizing the Substantive Law Section Chair who made the most outstanding contribution to advancing the FDCC's educational goals.
Writing is a big part of Alan's work. He has written nearly 100 insurance coverage pieces. Best's Review has been running his insurance coverage column for more than 20 years. He was awarded for Editorial Excellence. He's an author in the New Appleman Insurance Law Practice. Most recently, Alan is the lead editor of The Reference Handbook on the Commercial General Liability Policy. The first edition, published four years ago, was an ABA best-seller. The third edition was released in 2023.
Alan has been named to Best Lawyers in America® for Insurance Law from 2022-2024. Since 2022, the well-respected Legal 500 has recommended Alan in the insurance: advice to insurers category. Albert W. Petraglia concentrates his practice on Surrogate's Court litigation, trusts and estates administration, and complex estate planning and related tax matters.
Of Counsel to Rivkin Radler's Personal, Family & Business Planning Practice Group, Albert is routinely appointed by the Court to act as a guardian, guardian ad litem, Court Examiner or Referee. He also represents clients in MHL ART 81 and SCPA 17-A proceedings.
Previously, Albert served as Chief Clerk-Referee at the Nassau County Surrogate's Court for more than 17 years, where he was responsible for the daily operation of the Nassau County Surrogate's Court. There, he oversaw the installation of a new advanced computer system and initiated a program to digitize Surrogate's Court files as a means to preserve file integrity and provide easy access to data.
He is a speaker from time to time for the New York State Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Program.
Albert continues to be active in the Surrogate's Courts Chief Clerk's Association, and the Surrogate's Law Association, he has been a guest lecturer for both associations. Albert is a past president and current member of the Columbian Lawyers' Association.
He was the recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation from the Lawyer's Fund for Client Protection for the help he extended his client in securing an award of reimbursement.
Albert has been actively involved in the American Kidney Fund for the past seven years, most recently serving on the nonprofit organization's New York Golf Classic Committee.
Alex B. Pia is an Associate in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group. He concentrates his practice on commercial litigation with an emphasis on real estate, construction (including license agreements and RPAPL 881 litigation), and complex landlord-tenant litigation. He represents developers, major estate landlords and management companies, brokers, condo/co-op boards and shareholders, tenants, financial services firms and fiduciaries, business operators of all sizes, and high-net-worth individuals.
Beyond his litigation practice, Alex often acts as outside general counsel, advising business operators of all sizes in entity formation, strategic planning, negotiations, regulatory compliance, and pre-dispute resolution.
Alex also has experience in appellate litigation, having contributed to arguments before the appellate division and Court of Appeals.
While attending Brooklyn Law School, Alex served as an editor of the Brooklyn Law Review and interned for the Hon. Katherine Levine of Kings County Supreme Court.

Alexander G. Pappas has tried and litigated to successful conclusion dozens of cases throughout the tri-state area, including 20 of New Jersey's 21 counties.
Alex has extensive experience litigating a broad array of legal matters. He regularly handles cases involving products liability issues, insurance defense, premises liability and general liability matters, public entity defense, wrongful death, asbestos and toxic tort litigation, wrongful termination, and civil rights suits, as well as complex commercial and contract disputes. Alex also represents professionals, including attorneys, home inspectors, and insurance brokers, against malpractice claims.
Alex often is called on by his clients to conduct insurance fraud investigations and examinations under oath relative to medical providers seeking payment for purported services. Alex also has argued appeals to the New Jersey Appellate Division, and has participated in various forms of alternative dispute resolution, including mediations and arbitrations.
An active member of the New Jersey Bar, Alex recently was re-appointed to the Bergen County Bar Association Committees for Civil Practice and Professionalism in the Law for the 2014-2015 term. He also was re-appointed as a delegate from the Bergen County Bar Association to the New Jersey Bar Association.
Alex graduated from Quinnipiac College School of Law, where he served as an associate editor of the Quinnipiac Law Review and received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.
Alexandra Cusano is an Associate in Rivkin Radler's Insurance Fraud Practice Group.
Alexandra's practice focuses on prosecuting civil lawsuits under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, including affirmative actions to recover insurer claim payments to physicians, medical clinics, attorneys, public adjusters, and others involved in complex, large-scale insurance fraud schemes.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Alexandra served as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office's Vehicular Crimes Bureau. During her time there, she handled all aspects of prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases, both violent and non-violent. She also handled criminal investigations, conducted numerous grand jury presentations and pre-trial hearings, and conducted multiple bench and jury trials to verdict.
Alexandra is a graduate of SUNY Buffalo Law School where she was an executive editor for the Public Interest Law Journal and a member of the Moot Court board. She was also a member of the Trial Team Program, where she participated in multiple competitions.

Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Alexandra served as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office Vehicular Crimes Bureau. During her time there, she tried over a dozen jury trials, handled countless pre-trials hearings, and presented over 70 cases to the grand jury. She successfully prosecuted hundreds of cases from arrest to sentencing including driving while intoxicated and impaired cases, and other felony and misdemeanor offenses.
After law school, Alexandra clerked for a Circuit Court Judge in Fairfax County, VA. In that role, she assisted the judge in handling civil and criminal matters assigned to the judge's docket. While in law school, Alexandra was an editor for George Mason's Law Review and a member of Moot Court. She was also a Vice President of the Trial Advocacy Program, where she was part of a national finalist team in the American Association for Justice Competition. During her final year, Alexandra also participated in her law school's Supreme Court Clinic. As part of that Clinic, she worked on a brief submitted on the merits to the United States Supreme Court, which was subsequently argued before the Court.
Alexandria has experience with real estate transactions and banking practices, and has represented lenders, as well as individuals in the purchase, sale, and refinance of properties. Her practice also includes representing creditors in consumer bankruptcy proceedings.
While attending Touro Law Center, Alexandria served as Articles Editor of the Touro Law Review and published an article that focused on the privacy implications of drone technology. She also served as a teaching assistant to Professor Rena Seplowitz's Property course. Alexandria received multiple CALI awards for earning the top grade in her courses.
In her spare time, Alexandria enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with family.
Allison N. Stapleton is an Associate in Rivkin Radler's Insurance Fraud Practice Group.
Allison helps insurers prosecute civil lawsuits under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, including affirmative actions to recover insurer claim payments to physicians, medical clinics, attorneys, public adjusters, and others involved in complex, large-scale insurance fraud schemes.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Allison served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office, where she tried multiple jury and bench trials and handled numerous pretrial hearings. Allison successfully prosecuted hundreds of cases from arrest to sentencing including sex crimes, domestic violence, animal cruelty, and other misdemeanor and felony offenses.
While at Hofstra Law School, Allison served as a Notes and Comments Editor for the Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal. She was also a member of the Hofstra Trial Advocacy Association, where she was part of a national finalist team in the American Association for Justice Mock Trial Competition and the champion team in the Queens District Attorney's Office Mock Trial Competition.
Allison was also named a 2023 New York Metro Rising Star. The Risings Stars list is comprised of the top 2.5 percent of lawyers under the age of 40.

Amanda graduated from SUNY Geneseo, and received her juris doctor, cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law where she was the Managing Editor of the Journal of Global Rights and Organizations.
After her second year of law school, Amanda was a Summer Law Clerk at Rivkin Radler, where she gained valuable experience in a variety of the firm's practice areas. Prior to that, Amanda was a law clerk at a boutique New York law firm, working on various matters related to bankruptcy litigation.
During her second and third years of law school, Amanda participated in Syracuse University College of Law's Bankruptcy Clinic, where she worked directly with clients by assisting them in preparing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Petitions and related documents.
In her free time Amanda enjoys baking bread, reading mystery novels, and travel.
An Associate in Rivkin Radler's Real Estate, Zoning & Land Use Practice Group, Amanda counsels and represents landlords and tenants in commercial transactions and litigation disputes.
Prior to joining the Firm, Amanda began her career as an attorney at a law firm that specialized in landlord/tenant and landlord associated administrative law. She routinely appeared in the New York City, Westchester and Long Island courts to handle housing litigation proceedings, while also working in the Firm's Administrative Law Department. Amanda was successful in assisting owners before the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, including defending against rent overcharge claims and building-wide service complaints. She has also assisted clients with Substantial Rehabilitation and Major Capital Improvement applications, TPU Audits, annual registration requirements and the preparation of Petitions for Administrative Review
Amanda was also successful in defending complaints before the State Division of Human Rights and the NYC Commission on Human Rights. She also has experience defending landlords before the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, Environmental Control Board and on building and fire code violations in New York City Criminal Court, as well as with negotiating contracts and handling closings throughout the five boroughs and Westchester County.
Amanda earned her J.D. from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. She was a recipient of the School's Public Service Award, having completed over 300 hours of pro bono work as a Student Attorney in the Disaster Recovery Clinic, where she assisted members of the community in their legal proceedings stemming from Superstorm Sandy. Amanda was the Managing Editor of the Hofstra Law Journal of International Business of Law and a member of the Dean's List. Prior to attending Hofstra Law School, Amanda received her undergraduate degree from Molloy College in 2013, where she was a member of the Dean's List and Salutatorian of the Criminal Justice Department.
Amy is a partner in the Real Estate, Zoning and Land Use practice group.
Amy has extensive experience in a wide range of commercial real estate transactions, including office, retail, restaurant and industrial leasing and subleasing for landlords, tenants, sublandlords and subtenants, acquisition and disposition of a wide range of commercial buildings, and the representation of leading U.S. and international financial institutions, funds, property owners, banks and investors in real estate financing.
Amy represents some of the biggest retail and industrial owners in Nassau and Suffolk Counties in connection with all of their leasing needs. She also consistently represents tenants in office, retail and industrial leasing. Amy spent over five years representing a public company with offices throughout the United States on the tenant side of leases of all sizes from 1,000 square feet to 350,000 square feet and over six years representing primarily industrial and retail landlords. Her retail experience includes representing landlords on leases ranging from small mom and pop leases to big box retailers.
Amy also spends a lot of her time representing both buyers and sellers in connection with the acquisition and disposition of commercial real estate, including vacant land, office buildings, strip malls and industrial buildings. She has also been involved with a number of sales of an entire portfolio of assets.
Amy S. Wiedmann focuses her practice in investigating and litigating insurance fraud involving healthcare and property claims in no-fault, bodily injury, uninsured motorist and subrogation matters. As a member of the Firm's Insurance Fraud Practice Group, Amy regularly represents national and regional insurers in fighting fraud in the healthcare and automobile industries in actions to recover payments to physicians, medical clinics, attorneys, public adjusters, and others as part of complex, large-scale insurance fraud and kickback schemes in federal and state litigation, arbitration and mediation.
In addition, Amy counsels automobile and property insurers on claims-handling practices and investigation techniques, and works closely with her clients to develop fraud prevention, detection, and recovery plans. Amy has created no-fault manuals and has administered no-fault training workshops for her various clients, and has defended insurers before the N.Y. Department of Financial Services against complaints challenging her clients' claim-handling practices.
Amy's has also defended clients against numerous employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims in federal court and before the EEOC, and has counseled special districts with regard to numerous legal issues.

A member of Rivkin Radler's Insurance Fraud Practice Group, Andrea C. Sacks focuses her practice on investigating suspicious claims and litigates on behalf of insurers to recover fraudulent payouts.
She counsels automobile insurers on claims-handling practices and investigation techniques in a collaborative effort to develop fraud detection and deterrence strategies. Before joining the firm, Andrea was in-house counsel with AIG Insurance Company, where she handled large scale fraud investigations, as well as coverage litigations.
Andrea plays an integral role in Rivkin Radler's mentoring program, both in Uniondale and the Capital Region, where she has worked diligently to integrate the Insurance Fraud Practice Group across three offices and support the growth of the group's associates. She has received numerous accolades in recognition of her efforts. In addition to training and mentoring the associates, Andrea has taught a continuing legal education course on no-fault law and procedures.
Andrea serves as a co-founder for a not-for-profit that gives the gift of performing arts to underprivileged children. She strongly believes that exposure to the performing arts at a young age promotes high academic achievement and self-confidence, helps children to collaborate with others to reach a common goal and fosters acceptance among different cultures. Andrea has also led Rivkin Radler's fundraising efforts for Light the Night, an annual event that raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Andrew Dugué currently practices in the areas of commercial litigation involving contractual disputes, class actions and insurance matters.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Andrew practiced as a trial attorney advising and defending clients statewide and has successfully litigated complex cases in court involving dozens of witnesses and interested parties. He has extensive mediation experience and has effectively negotiated multimillion-dollar settlements ensuring a desirable outcome on behalf of his clients. Andrew also has broad eDiscovery experience advising Fortune 500 companies on best eDiscovery practices and technologies as well as the management of big data.

During law school, Andrew interned for the Florida Third District Court of Appeals and clerked at a non-profit firm representing low-income communities in Miami-Dade County in matters involving tenant's rights. Andrew L. Williams is an Associate in Rivin Radler's Insurance Fraud Practice Groups. He focuses his practice on insurance defense and no-fault insurance fraud matters.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Andrew was an associate at a mid-sized Long Island firm, where his primary focus was commercial litigation and general liability defense. He handled all aspects of litigation in New York State Supreme Court from inception, including depositions, drafting and arguing motions and negotiating settlements. Andrew also served as a Staff Attorney for The Legal Aid Society of New York City where he defended tenants in housing court. His representation of tenants included several bench trials and administrative hearings.
Andrew is actively involved in the community on Long Island and volunteers his time to the East Meadow Fire Department, where he recently served as Captain. Additionally, he co-founded the Haiti Soccer Project, which promotes organized youth soccer in Haiti by donating equipment to schools and churches that country. While in college, he was a member of the men's lacrosse team.

Angelica Barcsansky is an associate in Rivkin Radler's Personal, Family & Business Planning Practice Group. She focuses her practice on contested and uncontested proceedings in the Surrogate's Courts.
Prior to concentrating in this area of law, Angelica's practice related to civil litigation, insurance defense and insurance fraud matters.
Angelica is a member of the New York State Bar Association Trusts & Estates Law Section and the Nassau County Bar Association Surrogate's Court Committee.
While in law school, Angelica served as a member of the Moot Court Society and the Society for Dispute Resolution. She was also involved in the law school's Peer Mentor Program.
Anne is an accomplished litigator. Her achievements include successfully representing a major insurer as lead counsel in a New Jersey coverage action seeking several hundred million dollars in insurance coverage and involving 14 hazardous waste sites across the country. Anne also served as counsel to the insurer throughout the successful jury trial and subsequent appeals in the ACC Chemical insurance coverage action, which sought over $100 million in insurance coverage. On behalf of her insurance clients, Anne has won summary judgment dismissing claims for defense and indemnity in a variety of matters, including cases of first impression in courts in New York and elsewhere.
Ariane Smith's practice focuses primarily on insurance and commercial litigation. She assists in the defense and prosecution of a wide array of matters, including coverage and other insurance contractual disputes, property damage claims to include windshield and diminution in value, class actions and related issues, and personal injury protection claims. She is involved in all stages of the litigation process, from the initiation of the lawsuit through trial, including motion practice and hearings and discovery proceedings. She also assists in the prosecution and defense of state appellate matters relating to insurance disputes.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Ariane worked at two local insurance defense firms for several years where she represented insurance companies and insureds in, among other things, first and third-party coverage actions, bad faith litigation, uninsured motorist defense, global settlements, automobile property damage claims including windshield and diminution in value, and insurance class action defense. Ariane also has experience representing insureds and insurance companies in disputes involving commercial general liability policies, home insurance policies, and personal umbrella policies.
Ariane began her legal career by clerking for the Honorable Marcia Morales Howard, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division, where she primarily assisted in section 2255 habeas corpus matters concerning Sixth Amendment constitutional issues.

Ashley is also a member of the Privacy, Data & Cyber Law group and regularly counsels health care clients in matters involving new emerging technologies, HIPAA privacy and security, technology service agreements and business associate agreements, and the sharing of protected health information. Ashley also represents health care clients in conducting compliance investigations regarding potential breaches and advises clients regarding reporting requirements to the Office of Civil Rights and other applicable government agencies.
While attending Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, Ashley contributed towards projects with the Gitenstein Institute of Health Law and Policy and the Bioethics Center and received a concentration in Health Law.

Ashley helps insurers prosecute civil lawsuits under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, including affirmative actions to recover insurer claim payments to physicians, medical clinics, attorneys, public adjusters, and others involved in complex, large-scale insurance fraud schemes.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Ashley served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office's Vehicular Crimes Bureau. During her time there, she handled all aspects of prosecution of misdemeanor and felony charges, both violent and non-violent, and also conducted criminal investigations, numerous grand jury presentations, and evidentiary hearings. She also acted as lead counsel, trying numerous bench and jury trials to verdict.
Ashley is a graduate of St. John's University School of Law, where she was a member of the Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute Mock Trial Competition Team and was awarded a summer public interest fellowship. During her time at St. John's, she interned for the Queens, Kings, and Suffolk District Attorney's Offices and Brooklyn Defender Services. She also served as a criminal law teaching assistant to the dean of the law school.
Ashley attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in political science, graduating magna cum laude.
Avi Sinensky is a Partner in Rivkin Radler's Corporate Practice Group with a broad-based transactional practice. He has extensive experience advising business owners and investors on a wide variety of corporate transactions and corporate governance matters across a broad range of industries and throughout all stages of the business life cycle.
Avi regularly counsels clients in the structuring and negotiation of complex mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions, including debt and equity financing transactions, private company investments and real estate joint ventures.
Avi has substantial experience in negotiating shareholder, partnership and operating agreements, financing arrangements, services agreements and other commercial contracts. Avi also advises individuals and businesses in connection with executive compensation arrangements, including employment and consulting agreements, severance agreements, business succession planning and the design of stock option and other equity compensation plans.
Avi writes and presents on a wide variety of business and corporate law topics. His work has been featured in programs and publications by the New York City Bar, the Long Island Business News, US Law Magazine and the New York Law Journal.

Avigael serves as the Chair of the Nassau County Bar Association's Ethics Committee and has lectured on various topics related to professional liability claims, risk management, and legal ethics. In 2016, she received Long Island Business News' Leadership in Law-Associate award and in 2020, the publication named her one of its "40 Under 40."

During his final year of law school, Brandon was selected to participate in Hofstra's Community and Economic Development Clinic where he represented non-profits, social movement groups and other small businesses, and provided corporate and transactional law assistance. Qasim is an Associate in Rivkin Radler's Insurance Fraud Practice Group.
Qasim helps insurers prosecute civil lawsuits under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, including affirmative actions to recover insurer claim payments to those involved in complex, large-scale insurance fraud schemes.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Qasim clerked for the Honorable Lurana S. Snow in the Southern District of Florida. In that role, he assisted the judge in handling the court's civil docket and gained valuable experience in all aspects of federal court litigation. While with the court, Qasim dealt with all manner of discovery disputes ranging from motions to compel discovery to motions for Rule 37 sanctions. He also gained exposure to motions to dismiss, for sanctions and contempt, for damages, and a variety of motions dealing with commercial disputes both in the pre-trial and post-judgment phase, as well as those related to Title VII, and other employment disputes.
Qasim graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, finishing in the top 5% of his class. While in law school, he served as a Research Editor for the Florida Law Review and obtained the Cali Excellence for the Future Award in Corporations and Accounting for Lawyers. Qasim is also a member of the Levin College of Law Chapter of the Order of the Coif.
