Dan Leatherdale

Job Titles:
  • Consultant
  • Psychologist, Coach & Writer
Dan has been a consultant since 2010, facilitating communications and leadership development training for all levels of seniority in dozens of blue-chip organisations. Dan has worked for nearly twenty years as a business psychologist, leadership and communication coach, and writer. He works closely with very senior leaders in a range of organisations, including global corporations and highly-regulated financial and professional services firms all over the world. Before founding Open Space, Dan was CEO of AGL Communication, leading on many of its most senior-level projects. Prior to this, he was a creative director at Mind Gym, working with leaders to achieve measurable impact across global populations. He was also head of research and knowledge, keeping the organisation abreast of the latest thinking. Dan took a Masters in French and Italian Literature from Oxford and was at the start of an academic career when he decided to follow a different passion. He trained for three years at the prestigious drama school, LAMDA, working for several years as an actor, writer and musician. This change of direction enabled him to retain his love of words and stories, now working with others to lift them off the page and connect them to an audience through a shared experience. As an actor, Dan became involved in the use of experiential drama-based techniques on learning and development programmes, and this soon became an even greater passion - designing and delivering targeted workshops, and building into their design an emphasis on close 1:1 coaching support for participants. To ensure this work had a proper evidence-based foundation, Dan took an MSc in Occupational Psychology from London, and his research, on the role of leaders in people development, is included in a book on best learning practices within a professional services firm. He is certified by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
