Athanasios Panagiotou

Athanasios (Thanos) Panagiotou was born in 1988 in Athens, Greece. He is an attorney-at-law and member of the Athens Bar Association, specializing in medical and healthcare law. In 2006 he graduated (Valedictorian) from the American College of Greece-Pierce. In 2011, he graduated from the Athens Law School (Merit). In 2011-12, he did his military service at the Greek Army, offering services at the Department of Military Human Resources (Judicial Actions Section). He holds a master's degree (LL.M.) in Medical Law from Queen Mary, University of London (High Merit). He is Ph.D. Candidate in the field of civil medical liability at the Faculty of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2016, he received an Excellence Scholarship by the Research Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His articles on contemporary topics of medical law have been published in national and international peer-review medical and legal journals. He has presented papers at various national and international medical law conferences. He has taught in educational seminars/ lifelong learning courses and summer schools. He has cooperated with medical societies with respect to issues of medical law and ethics. Athanasios Panagiotou is a Board Member of the European Association of Health Law. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Business School of the American College of Greece-Deree, where he teaches "Business Law". Since 2018, he teaches the undergraduate course "Legal System and Method" in the context of the University of London International Program-LL.B. in Athens, Greece. Finally, since November 2019, he participates as a Senior Researcher at the EU-funded project titled "A litigation risk estimation system in civil medical malpractice liability in Greece" conducted at the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus.

George Giannopoulos

George Giannopoulos is Assistant Professor at the Law School of the University of Athens in the field of "Legal Informatics". He graduated from Law School of the University of Athens on 1988 and completed his PhD at the University of London (Queen Mary College) on the application of artificial intelligence in the law-making process. He has also graduated from Computer Programming (1984-86) and Systems Analysis (1987) from ELKEPA. In 1996-1997 he was a Senior Research Fellow at the University of London where he conducted postdoctoral research in law and new technologies. In 1998 he was Senior Lecturer at Westminster University. In 1999 he was elected Special Scientist and in 2004 Lecturer in Law School of the University of Athens on Legal Informatics. He has been an Attorney in Athens since 1990. Previously he was a lawyer at OTE SA (1998-2001) and the Olympic Committee of Athens 2004 SA (2001). He has extensive experience in all aspects of law and new technologies / telecommunications, competition and market liberalization law, Internet and e-commerce law, personal data protection, intellectual and industrial property law, e-banking and regulatory compliance issues. He is a member of the committees of the Hellenic Union of Bank: (i) Legal, (ii) Electronic banking and (iii) Prevention of fraud in electronic payment systems.

Sofia Katsoula is an Attorney-at-Law in Athens and a member of the Athens Bar Association since 2016. She received her Law Degree from the Faculty of Law of the European University of Cyprus in 2016, with Ηonors. In 2013 she graduated from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, School of Law, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and in 2016 she was awarded the postgraduate title "Legal Culture: Public and Private Law" by the Department of Public Administration of Panteion University, with the degree "Excellent". In the framework of her postgraduate qualification, she prepared her thesis on the topic: "Absolute procedural nullity of article 171 of the Criminal Procedure Code and the rights of the accused", similarly rated with the degree "Excellent". In 2013 she was employed by the Greek Parliament in the Legislative Department. From 2016 until today she has been working as a lawyer with a daily presence on behalf of her clients both before administrative and judicial authorities, especially in civil law and criminal law cases.
