GAR GAAR YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES

Gar Gaar means help in Somali. Gar Gaar Youth and Family Services was founded in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the significant impact on the Somali community in the Twin Cities Region of Minnesota. Repercussions of schools closing and parents becoming unemployed left many already vulnerable children and families in further high risk situations. Within weeks, Gar Gaar was launched and begin providing healthy meals and snack to these children. By providing culturally appropriate food the children would eat, Gar Gaar filled a void and quickly exceeded their allotments... Our team is proud to be a part of the communities we serve. Through other organizations, we have worked in our community for over 20 years providing culturally competent child care, meal provision and resource connection. Our success comes from having cultural awareness, essential for these programs and their recipients, to succeed. For us, this means providing nutritious meals and snacks that kids know..
