MAKAU SURF

Makau is an ancient Hawaiian fish hook, critical to sustaining life throughout Polynesia. Often regarded as a symbol for safe passage over water, the Makau brings good fortune and strength to those who adorn it. The Makau has held deep cultural significance in Hawai'i and throughout the Polynesian Triangle for well over a millennium. Traditionally carved from bone, wood, stone, and coral, different Makau were crafted to catch every single type of fish and sea creature; a craft which was often passed down through generations (and made internationally famous thanks to Disney's 2016 film "Moana"). Our logo is a proud replica of the Makau, stylized and placed on it's side to resemble a wave, with a brave surfer slotted in the pipe and riding the double overhead conditions. Our logo is adorned with traditional Polynesian and Maori carvings, including a sigil of a Honu (or turtle) from which Honolulu gets it's name, and a sigul of a Kāhuna Tiki Mask.
