In exercise of the power conferred under the proviso of article 309 of constitution of India, the Indian ordnance factory service formed under ministry of defence government of India with cadre controlling authority as department of defence production. This service was constituted as Indian ordnance service in the year 1935 during British colonial time and later reconstituted as Indian ordnance factory service (IOFS) in the year 1954... IOFS is a participating civil service under the central staffing scheme (CSS), which allows officers to move to any organisation, commission, institution, agency, department, ministry of the government of India on deputation basis. IOFS officers also serve at key managerial posts of PSUS and SEZs as advisors and secretaries to the union cabinet ministers and ministry.
