PALMETTO INNOCENCE PROJECT

The Palmetto Innocence Project, a South Carolina non-profit, works to prevent and correct the conviction of innocent people in South Carolina. According to the Innocence Project in New York, it is estimated that there are approximately 20,000 people currently in prison who are factually innocent of their crimes. Since the late 1980's, there have been about 850 exonerations nationwide... We provide free legal services for inmates in South Carolina who we believe have been wrongfully convicted and whose innocence can be proven. In addition, our mission includes educating the broader community on fairness issues and problems in the criminal justice system and advocating for policies and law that improve the justice process and prevent wrongful convictions...
