Alan Watson Featherstone

Is an ecologist, nature photographer and inspirational public speaker who has been living in the Findhorn Community in Scotland since 1978. In 1986 he founded the award-winning Scottish charity, Trees for Life, to help restore the Caledonian Forest in the Highlands of Scotland, having been inspired in part by visiting Auroville in 1985 and seeing first-hand the forest restoration work that had been carried out there. Alan has visited Auroville several times since then, most recently in March 2020, and has close connections with many of the people involved in Auroville's greenwork. He has given public talks in Auroville about ecological restoration on several occasions, and regularly promotes Auroville through his own work elsewhere - for example a photograph of banyan trees at Fertile in Auroville features in the Forests Forever perpetual calendar that he has produced. Alan is a former trustee of the Findhorn Foundation, currently trustee of Wild things! (an environmental education charity in Scotland) and a trustee of Trees for Hope (a charity which aims to restore degraded ecosystems).

Aurovenkateshan has a background in academic studies in biochemistry and management, has been in the health care management with over 12 years of experience in Aravind Eye Hospital, near Pondicherry, especially the environmental sustainablity management of a big hospital. He worked in public health in Nigeria. He is involved in research and publications with special interest in environmental sustainability and in assessment of food systems. His family background is traditional South Indian organic farming Focus is projects in sustainability, farming, food processing, waste recycling.

Bernard Leclerq

Bernard came to live in Auroville in 1975., and stated dryland and wetland farming in 78, specializing in indigenous rice cultivation. Bernard collected 78 endangered indigenous rice varieties and maintained seed stock for 14 years. Since 1994 he is working on the reclamation of highly eroded soils for forestry and agriculture. Bernard and his wife Deepika Kundaji regenerated 8 acres of pebbly eroded laterite land without any external input (compost, labour, water), by working hands on and in sync with nature. Bernard specific interests and research are Terra Preta, the role of termites in soil regeneration, the impact of birds in seed dissemination and ecosystem regeneration., traditional grains in India., and many more. Bernard Leclerq has been closely associated with Nammalwar, the godfather of organic farming in South India.

Erik Jan Segers

Erik was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo before moving to Belgium. Qualified as a tropical agronomist, he worked for seven years with ‘Terre & Humanisme' in France (international agroecology organisation, created by Pierre Rabhi). Erik also brings his experiences as a project manager in African and Asian settings, and as an environmental activist, beekeeper and writer. He has been a valuable member of the Auro-Orchard Farm since 2015, supporting the ongoing develepment of organic farming practices with his considerable academic, professional and hands-on knowledge and expertise.

Ken Vanosky

He also spent 10-years with a Fortune 100 company where he last served as Corporate VP with financial and administrative responsibility for a group of eleven entrepreneurial service companies. His business responsibilities span the areas of finance, operations, and international management. He co-founded several technology companies, taking one public and served as a strategic business consultant to many more. Highly experienced internationally, work and travel have taken him to 71 countries. Educational background includes MS and BA degrees in International Management, and a BA in History. Ken also has a long history of engagement with projects for social good, community development, and transformation practices where he has served as a course leader and facilitated over 50-weekend training. He helped to develop two community-based training organizations that are now international in scope.

Michael Shaw

Michael Shaw works in the field of ecological engineering in the water and energy sectors past decades. Michael Shaw is the former Chair of Trustees of the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland, is an Honorary Professor in Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, with directorships of Biomatrix Water Solutions Ltd, Farm Hand Ltd (smart irrigation) and Findhorn Innovation Research and Education CIC. Ramanan, a young Aurovilian with solid roots in the local culture, graduated in business and subsequently chose to follow his passion for and natural affinity with farming and animals. He uses his skills and capacity in many aspects of the farm, notably looking after the large poultry, and in planning and coordinating vegetable cultivation. He has attended a ‘train the trainers' formation in organic farming in Thailand, and is keenly engaged in promoting sustainable practices through farm tours, educational visits, workshops and active networking, inspiring especially young people and burgeoning organic farmers with his enthusiasm.
