Doris "Dee" Denise Cannon

My adventure began on February 7, 1956 in Texas City, Texas. My parents were George "Mack" and Doris Marie Drummond. Unfortunately, this adventure ended after I got squished by an elephant on March 4, 2022. Made you go "Wha?" didn't it. My childhood was typical of the 50's, playing in the neighborhood and only coming in when the porch light came on. I was fortunate to experience many different jobs. I've been a deck hand, horse trainer, jockey, farrier, bull and bronc rider, barrel racer, roper, draftsman, illustrator, farmer, veterinary technician and artist but the best thing I ever did was marry my best friend and love of my life, my husband of 46 years, Edwin, and being a mom to my children, George Cannon and Karyn McCoy, mother-in-law to Darrel McCoy, and grandmother to Ryan, Randy, London and Danielle.

Mary Lou Kelso

Mary Lou Kelso left a message on March 17, 2022: Ray will be so missed by so many friends and family!!!! He was so terribly proud of his children and grandchildren. I only knew him the past few years. I agree with Pam Fritz, he so liked Libbie's Place. He had to show me around where he helped fill the bird feeders and other little tasks... if I did not know better, he was like part of the staff being so proud of the facility. He and his friends there were truly engaged with all the offerings that Libbie's did daily with their clients. . How lucky Galveston is to have such a Gem. He volunteered for GHF Homes Tour for me. I felt it would be good for him to be on the front porch so he could sit if he was tired a few years ago. With being house chair, I gave the history of the chosen house before the guests went inside. After doing it so many years, I found as people got on the porch they would let me know how hot they were and how long they had to wait in line...this was year in and out. Well to my surprise, that did not happen the year Ray helped me. He was down at the bottom of the stairs greeting the new group of guests asking them where they were from and on and on. By the time they got to the porch, they forgot how long they waited in line and how hot they were. It was simply so astonishing the two full weekends, my job was a breeze with Ray having them all ready to listen to my giving the history. Additionally, he volunteered for GHF Dickens on the Strand. As always, the ticket sellers are in a small little house with about four volunteers. Ray, again, took an active role putting the money drawer in place and then being our banker with giving us change as we sold tickets. What an outstanding volunteer, along with the fact of, everybody becoming friends immediately with Ray! It is very sad with the fact of Ray's passing. I feel so badly for his family. May the Eternal Light continue to shine on his entire family at this very difficult time! With love, Mary Lou
