Fred Cooperrider is a former Patent Examiner with over 20 years of experience in patents and patent prosecution. Fred's practice is focused on mechanical devices and electronics technologies. Samar Shah is a patent attorney who represents start-ups and established tech companies on issues related to patent strategy and patent prosecution. Samar has over 10 years of experience in patent law. He wrote his first patent application for Palm's PalmPilot PDA while he was still a second year law student. Since then, Samar has written patents, and helped develop patent portfolio strategies for companies such as Facebook, Google, and many others. Samar Shah has also litigated patents for Blackberry, Acelity/KCI, and others in a variety of forums, including district courts and the Patent Trial Appeals Board. His litigation experience ranges from preparing cases for trial by formulating positions on infringement and claim construction, conducting discovery, drafting motions, preparing witnesses for depositions, taking and defending depositions, and writing briefs for appeals at the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Samar Shah has also handled post grant proceedings and patent prosecution, focusing primarily on inter partes reviews (IPRs), reexaminations, and other advanced prosecution strategies to assist clients manage active litigations. Prior to founding Outlier Patent Attorneys, PLLC, Samar worked at some of the biggest and most prestigious law firms in the country as a patent prosecutor and as a patent litigator. He cut his teeth in the industry by writing patent at Fenwick & West, LLP, and litigated patents at Paul Hastings, LLP. Samar was named a top 40 Under 40 Professional by San Antonio Business Journal, and was named one of the Best IP Attorneys in San Antonio by San Antonio Scene Magazine.
